Hi there, I am planning my first wedding cake and am not sure about pricing it's going to be square 11" 9" 7" 5" square with handmade roses cascading down one side and ribbons around each tier what would everyone charge for this ??? X x

Geeze, you guys are waaaay overpriced, I wouldn't charge a penny more than $34.99. ;-)

 

But seriously, OP, no one can tell you how much to charge, You need to do the math for yourself- figure out all of your costs (materials, overhead, what you need to pay yourself) and then add profit on top of that. I'm sure Jason will chime in, he has all of this info on his blog, which is linked in his sig.

This topic has been discussed extensively. Use the search box and type in "how to price cakes" or "jason_kraft pricing cakes" and learn for yourself how to do the math. The cakers on here get asked this question multiple times a day and are getting weary of it, so be a good CC member and find the answer through the search box. 

 

Also make sure you are compliant with food safety laws in your area, some states require a license and/or an inspection before you can sell food to the public.

If you are in the UK it's doubly difficult to help you price your cake. Serving sizes are different all over the world, costs are different, wages are different, currency is different. The only thing we have in common is knowing how big your cake will be! 

 

There is a (very long) thread on Cake Central called "Calling all UK bakers"...maybe try posting on there?

I will never understand why someone would think someone else could price your cake??? We know NOTHING about your particular circumstance, other than the sizes of the pans. What if we all told you to charge $1 per serving, would you do that? I would hope not! This is something you need to figure out for yourself. It's not that we don't want to help, it's just that we can't. At least not with this kind of question.

 

Now, if you post a picture of a cake that is similar to what you are going to make and tell us the servings you need, we will give you the price of what each of us would charge. You will see how much this will vary from person to person.

Gemellie- I was wondering if you maybe meant to ask if people charge a different rate for wedding cakes than other cakes?

 

I have no idea bout that one.   But I have seen a funny video about it...

I mean, if you really just want to know what each individual person would charge, I would be at around $1000 for that, assuming about 170 servings, buttercream icing, real ribbon, and a cascade of gum paste roses. Maybe a little more, depending on how many roses you plan to do. 

 

But how does that really help you? Your numbers for materials, overhead, etc are going to be different from mine. I would charge about $1000, someone else might say $1500, another may say $800. If we all gave you our prices, which one would you choose? And if you did choose one, how would you know if it would be accurate for you unless you had done the math for yourself?
