Need some help please...  When  creating characters out of gumpaste, I get cracks in them.  Please see attached picture.  I understand they are probably too dry but when I use gels to color the paste, I need to add a little corn starch or it becomes too tacky and you can't form anything.  How do I prevent the cracks in my gumpaste characters?

Marie,

I haven't worked with gumpaste yet, but my fondant used to get like that. So I put my fondant in the microwave for about 5 seconds (depending on the size of the fondant piece) and knead it until the cracks disappear. With fondant, you can also add a bit of vegetable shortening if it is still too dry.

Hope this helps!
