What about a bundt cake with a sprinkle of powdered sugar?

I homeschool because I've seen the village and I don't want it raising my children.

I offered the ganache option...that was shut down. The powdered sugar suggestion sounds good Jess155...what kind of bundt cake would you recommend? Any good recipes?

My father was never big on frosting, even before he was diagnosed with mild type 2 diabetes. Now, he's even less into frosting.

His birthday cake, therefore, is a pound cake, baked in a Bundt mold, and served naked.

The only other kind of cake I can think of that's routinely served naked would be angel food.

Or what about maybe a jelly roll? I believe those are regularly served naked.

Does he also dislike a whipped frosting? I dont really care for sweet frostings either but I like Pastry Pride because it is not too sweet.

Maybe a sponge with lemon curd inside, and powdered sugar on top?

What is it he doesn't like about frosting? For some people it's the sweetness, sometimes the texture.

If it's sweetness, a curd or a very lightly sweetened whipped cream, or maybe a raspberry whipped cream would work, and a sponge is light enough to pair well with it.

Oh, I totally missed your post on deciding to do a coffee crumble cake, good choice :)

These are all such good ideas' I'm expanding my list of cakes and options for ppl who don't like frosting. So the frosting is a taste as well as a health issue, he doesn't like the sweetness or the texture. So I just went with something that was plain. He's one of those people who ate picky but they don't know that they are lol. They go halfway with the direction. So hopefully this works lol

Blasphemy !

You could still do a pound cake, there's so many things you can turn a pound cake into. Awesome lemon, orange, chocolate pieces, marble, blueberry, banana. It's like a muffin.

What about a lemon drizzle cake that doesn't have icing but is moist and tasty

How about either fresh or dried glazed fruit / nuts on the top
