Hello everybody, I recently found a tutorial on how to make your own Kopykake. The idea is roughly the same, to project an image onto your cookie and trace over it with icing. I am working on making one myself, since I don't have the funds for a real Kopykake. Based on the tutorial, it seems to work very well. The only difference is you won't be able to change the size of the projected image as easily as with a real Kopykake. But for the difference in price, it's fine with me. Below is the link that shows you how to make the projector.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day, Rebeca
thanks for the information, please post your results would love to how you do with this
I currently have a kopykake. However, prior to the purchase I did a lot of royal icing transfer for detailed images.
This technique works perfectly. I tried it on a princess cookie and the result was awesome. Thanks to the video from Montreal Confections.
