I'm trying to think of a name for my home based cake business. I can only sell at Farmer's markets here so I have to label all my items so I need a name!
Some ideas we have are:
Cake!
Cake Cake Cake
Cake me Away
Dog Gone Cakes
My sister is trying to help me and neither of us are very good at naming stuff. We like Dog Gone Cakes but worry that people may think it's a pet business? What do you think?
AI love dog gone cakes. But you are right the first thing thst came to me was it was for pets :( I have yo vote for cake me away :)
I wouldn't use Dog Gone Cakes....lol!
Tell us about yourself. Name, specialties, kids, etc.
That will help.
Cake Me Away is great...very clever!
Dog Gone Cakes is too much like a dog biscuit business
Cake Cake Cake is not catchy.
Well my name is Cheri and I don't want to use it because my entire life people have said my name wrong calling me Cherry and Sherry lol. No kids don't really have a specialty I live in a pretty small country town that has a great tourism market and really want a name that's catchy but not hillbilly-ish .
I was thinking of going the way of like "Hey Cakes!" after a local business here called hey Pizza but wasn't sure if that would be proper.
I am trying to find a name that isn't in use by other people because I don't want to be accused of stealing. We were trying to find a name with "Pink" in it as it's a favorite color and the color of our cake boxes.
My sister was trying hard for "pig" or "piggy" to be in the name but not sure that would go over well either.

As far as name stealing, once you come up with a name do an internet search to see if there are any other businesses with that name. you could also go to the patent and trademark website and do a search on that name to see if anyone has it. make sure your name goes with your business, that it makes sense and tells what your about. For instance a cupcake business may have the word cupcakes in their name. to get some ideas for your name do a cake logo search and see if you get any inspiration.
lovebug,
Just my opinion, but I don't like the use of pig or piggy. It seems to suggest that if you eat cake you're being "piggy". Not very inviting. Just not a good visual image. Like I said, just my opinion. Good luck finding your perfect name!
I like Cake Me Away..and also I really like your name Cheri...even Cheri Cakes or something like that would be cute.
I do not like Dog Gone Cakes or anything related to a pig or being piggy and especially pairing that with sweets/desserts etc.
The first one makes me think of dog biscuits and also I don't like to associate pets and food.
The second insinuates something not very nice for your future customers- or for yourself.
I agree with the internet search. If you're planning to have a website or Facebook page down the line, you don't want to start branding yourself now, then have to change the name later. On that note, I'm pretty sure "Cake Me Away" is taken. That's a very popular play on words.
In my writing classes in college we used to used to brainstorm words when we would hit a creative block. For example, take a piece of paper and write down words that come to mind, or words you want people to think of, when they think about what your business. For example, yummy, fresh, fun, quality, cake, sugar, etc. Don't stop until the paper is full. Then, pick out the best words and start playing with them to come up with your name. Cake doesn't always have to be cake. It can be made into cakery. You don't always have to use a play on words either. I personally don't like when people do that - it seems campy to me. However, I may not be your target audience :) You have to think of who you want to target. If it's tourists, start brainstorming words that you associate with tourism. For example, pit stop...maybe you could be The Cake Stop? Sugar Shack? Cake N Go? I don't know :) But no idea is stupid when you first start brainstorming. That's not the objective in the first round. Think of it like an upside-down triangle. All your ideas are at the top, the fat part. As you keep going and narrowing it down, you'll eventually come to the tip of the triangle, and have something perfect!
Good luck!
Thanks everyone I think I'm going to go with "Countryside Cakes" I wanted something simple and this seems to fit.
Think about your name really well! I went with Susie's Sweets Bakery. Everybody calls me Susie. She is my dog! I just thought it sounded good together! :(
When I get the $$$$ together to open a proper shop, I am going to call it "The Dessert Place". SO after dinner, people can say, "Hey, wanna stop by the dessert place and get a piece of cake?"
