When you're making your own birthday cake, what do you make?

Good Morning!

Today is my birthday, and people are asking me what kind of elaborate cake I would make for myself. The truth is that my favorite cake and the one I always make myself (of course), is a flourless chocolate cake, with plain whipped cream.

AppleMark

It's not glam, or decorative and a lot of folks don't get it! But to me, every bite is pure heavenly chocolate...

What is your favorite birthday cake?

P.S. This was not a solicitation for birthday wishes, but if you just gotta let the feeling out, go right ahead. I won't judge... icon_biggrin.gif

And year I'm making German Chocolate Cake With Coconut-Pecan Cajeta Frosting. It's a Bobby Flay recipe that I saved from the food network magazine a while ago. I don't usually make my own birthday cake but this year I'm going to do something special that I like!

HAHA! I always have to make my own cake. When I turned 40, my sister ordered a cake and then served it to me at my birthday party!

Happy Birthday!  party.gif

I saw the photo of the slice of cake on the front page and clicked on it because it looked so good.  (Apparently if you imbed a photo in a thread, it also goes to the home page under "Newest Cakes".)

I haven't made a flourless chocolate cake, but that one looks like a cheesecake, only better.  Want to share a recipe as an early birthday gift to me?   (I already have the whipped cream and fork....)

It is my day so usually I do not have a cake, I love pie instead. On my days off away from the shop the last thing I want to see is cakes lol. I enjoy my career but I enjoy it because I know my limits lmao..Give me a sour cherry pie anyday !!!!!!

Happy Birthday!!

My husband gets great pleasure out of making me a birthday cake, from my recipes of course, so I let him. He gets our son involved and it's a nice treat. I always offer to do it, because I would like to practice and try new techniques, but he tells me that is what the other 364 days are for!! LOL So sweet.

If I had to make my own I'd go with a rich chocolate fudge cake filled with a white chocolate buttercream and covered in chocolate ganache. Death by Chocolate!!

It only has 3 ingredients, chocolate, eggs and butter, so use the best.

Happy Birthday!    I, like Izzy Sweet make myself a Strawberry Rhubarb Pie.  I am a June baby so perfect for strawberries and rhubarb.  And because I make cakes all the time they aren't special to me anymore.  I love pie.

Have an awesome birthday!

I usually hope that someone else will make me a cake.  My mom has always come through.  Unfortunately, she and my dad have decided to be "snow birds" and are in Arizona during my birthday now, so I haven't had a birthday cake in the past 2 years.  I always secretly hope that my husband will at least buy me a cake or that one of my kids will attempt to make one.  It hasn't happened yet.  I was kinda depressed on my birthday last year because it felt like my birthday wasn't important to anyone...

Anyway, if I were to make my own cake, I'd make exactly what I made for my brother last year:  Peanut butter cheesecake with a brownie bottom crust and peanut butter cups and chocolate chips inside.  Yeah, it was so good!  and rich!  I don't care that anyone else decorates for me and it seems silly to decorate your own cake...

and, Happy Birthday to you!!  That flourless cake looks yummy.  Maybe I ought to try one sometime. ;)

it's the bomb!!

ladies, these ideas are so interesting. I knew you'd all do different things. I mean, you can only eat so much vanilla buttercream, right? (psst, don't tell my customers that.)

ok--i love love love the chocolate bread pudding from The Peabody--but they haven't had it on the menu for a while--it's disturbingly decadent--can't get it out of my mind good

but then i think my favorites are--(we were poor) about 57 years ago mom got me a store bought b-day cake with all different colored piped roses -- she mighta got me going loving all this huh--it was breathtaking!

my daughter has made me some great cakes!!! but this one time she made some icing and when she some of the melted choco crystalized & the icing then had tiny bits of choco flecks in it--she was very disappointed but i was not--it was beautifully done and was crazy good--

fast forward about three days--in the mail came this big glossy photographic introductory offer for i think the southern living cookbook plus the recipe for this great chocolate cake -- and you guessed it--the chocolate cake looked just exactly like hers!!! it was choco on choco with choco flecks!!!!!!

too cool!!!

happy happy happy birthday, cake buddy!!!!

birthday.gif  < made this especially for you!!!! chocolate flecks & all ;)

I have only recently have gotten my hubby trained to get a b-day card for me on my birthday so if I want a cake I have to bake it myself... Usually I make strawberry shortcake which everyone loves including me...

but i never answered the question did i icon_biggrin.gif

but if i have to make my own, i happily skip it because it is my work so i don't want to work more just because it is my b-day

someday i might make me a whalapalooza cake...not this year...
