Can anyone tell me how to do the bottom tier on this cake?

At first I thought this was just filled with white flowers, but now I am thinking maybe it is long strips of fondant with a boarded edge cut on it? Has anyone ever done this before? Or at least have a better guess on how its done? Also, What kind of flower is this, and does anyone know where to buy gumpaste cutters this large? I have  a lot of flower cutters but none this big.

I think maybe it is a peony flower. Not sure how it was done maybe cut petal shapes and glued them on ??? If you google peony sugar flower cutters you will probably get all kinds of suppliers. Please let me know what you end up doing.

You could always bust out the white fondant and big blossom cutter and the border cutter that has the scalloped edge on it and experiment...let us know how it goes, it's beautiful.

Thanks everyone, it looks like it is def. a peony! I will get some cutters ordered tonight and start playing around! now to just figure out how the White part is. the more I look at it, the more I think it may be long strips of fondant cut with a boarder. I think your right Annabakescakes...time to experiment!

hi

for the white part why not try cutting white fondant in different size circles and using the ball tool as if you were to make roses just around the edge to make a thin crinkly effect then stick them overlapping! this would be fast enough to do once you got the hang on it! if you do not have a ball tool you can put them between two pieces of plastic and use your finger to create the shape...prob take a bit longer but same effect!

 wow  that flower is georgous and i just purchased the baby silicone mould like that one so another great idea for me to put it to use :)

Pretty sure that the white is just cut peony petals (most likely just parts/edges of the petal), unveined, randomly glued down, and allowed to "fall where they may". 

 

That's how I'd make that tier.

It never once crossed my mind that those could be made from the petals! That makes perfect since! Thanks Rae!

That flower is very pretty, and looks  nice an easy to do! Best part, is you can make it any size since you don't use cutters for it. Thanks for sharing!
