Here's the western cake I did with the tooled leather look
http://cakecentral.com/gallery/1797224
I bought stamps at Michaels. They are in the scrapbooking section. This was a clear pad with several on the page that had the floral look I wanted.
Oh...this cake was taken from a wedding cake version I saw on the web that was like 4 tiers. The 'leather' laces in the conchos on the original draped all the way down the sides of the tiers and looked really lovely.
HTH!

I did one several years ago with a tooled leather look:

We imprinted the pattern with different cutters and scroll presses, and then sponge painted a cocoa and oil mixture around on the light brown fondant.

Here is a picture of that wedding cake I was talking about...actually it's a copy of the 4 tier cake but I can't find that other one...it looks the same though.
I just think it looks elegant yet 'cowboy'. I was glad I got to do one tier for a groom's cake. it was fun.

I rolled out some gum paste that I had colored a light grey and then stamped a floral pattern on it. Then I cut them out with a heart shaped cutter and cut the holes where the 'leather' was supposed to go with an exacto. Then I laid them in a plastic chocolate mold sheet that had a bunch of small hearts to give them that rounded look. After drying, I dusted them with silver and pearl dust and lemon extract. It was easy! And fun! good luck!
