I'm still searching for more ideas on how to get fondant or gumpaste to look like tooled leather. These will be pieces added to covered cake. She wants them white. Wish I could draw a picture. Just trying to figure out how to get this done. I've looked everywhere for impression mat in that look, have ordered a place mat that is supposed to be faux tooled leather. Worried.
Wondering about stamping it with real leather stamps, but those are expensive and this is almost a freebie cake.

And, how should I make the rope? I looked at a mold but it is only 6" long and I can't imagine trying to piece them all together and have them look nice. The cake top is pewter and she wants the rope to match. Silver lustre dust? Real nylon rope?

Geeze...................

I have seen many times here where I live, JoAnn Fabrics has the tooled leather material in the fabric section. I have thought about buying a piece to have on hand in case I would need it in the future. I live in Horse Country here in Ocala, Fl. You could wipe it down with food safe santizer and impress your fondant. It would work great. I hope this gives you some idea of where to look. thumbs_up.gif

I saw a demo with Mike McCarey last weekend with modeling chocolate. He used some textured wallpaper to make distressed leather imprints on to the chocolate. Hope that helps!

perhaps use an extruder to make fondant rope? use the disc that looks like a clover w/o the stem, then twist the fondant after you've extruded it.

If you have a Hobby Lobby or Michaels nearby, check in their polymer clay section for an impression stamp by Donna Dewberry (the one-stroke painting lady). They have texture makers by Studio by Sculpey that look like tooled leather with the right shading. Check out this "chantilly" mat on this site: http://www.sculpey.com/products/tool/texture-makers-chantilly-lace
