Strawberry buttercream out of jello?

Am I imagining it, or is there a reliable recipe for making strawberry buttercream out of a box of jello mix?

I usually make it using preserves and strawberry extract but the extract is a pain to find (I can get it from the bakery supply but don't like to always mess around going there, they have minimum orders) so I picked up a box of jello thinking somebody here would be able to help me out. haha.

TIA!

I actually used lime jello to flavor the buttercream icing I used as the filling in my margarita cake. I added a little at a time until I got the flavor I wanted.

Is it gritty???

It took so little jello powder to get the flavor I wanted, that the powder just absorbed the moisture from the buttercream and melted in. There was no gritty texture.

Why not use a fruit compound? They are superconcentrated and do the trick!

If the jello icing is for a customer please contact them first and let them know you're putting meat in their cake.

Why would that be necessary? Unless the customer has already stated a preference or a need for non-meat everything, I just don't see the point.

Well, meat is not a normal ingredient in cake, that's one good reason!

I don't have any fruit compound at the moment.... I am not high volume enough to invest in that at this point.

This is a repeat customer, do not worry, they are not vegan. icon_rolleyes.gifthumbs_up.gif

What if they are vegetarian (lacto-ovo)?

They're not.

Yes I know jello is made with chicken gelatin. Makes it taste better. thumbs_up.gif

This thread is for discussing strawberry buttercream, not dietary habits, but thanks!!!!

You might also try strawberry kool aid.

All threads segue into other topics, at some point.

I put lemon jello in my buttercream for a cake that I did a few weeks ago and yes it was gritty. I was sick about it and had to toss it as I was not going to use something that was gritty and you could feel it with your tongue and also with your teeth.

I would like to know what people do when they add jello to their fillings (not heated) or icing as I know that a lot of people do this.

How about boiling water and then dissolving the gelatin. Then using this as your liquid instead of water or milk in the icing?? Similar to sugarshacks icing. When she makes her icing instead of just plain water she mixes hot water and coffee creamer.
