AThanks Maisie, loans was a 12", this is only 10" I had to put the the blue writing on the base. Initially I marbled it but kneaded most of it out, never mind, she‘s my biggest customer, I made her wedding cake last yr, the one with the hydrangeas on, made loads for her and her family, the white snow castle next week is for her sister's daughter, Jack's sister.

AWhat are you on about mel? That's one of her signature cakes! :-D

Must be so lovely to have returning customers nanny, you know you're good if they come back for more then don't you. Like I said earlier, my head is more than a little swollen from the coffee morning earlier. Not the same as a returning paying customer I know but a similar feeling I'd imagine.

My little chicken is wide awake and quoting "Frozen" so I'd better go and settle her before she bursts into song! Lizzy thankyou so much for this evenings entertainment. :-D

Night night everyone. X

My husband was so angry about the chessboard one because it's not the correct shape, nor does it have the right number of places! The angry bird is certainly angry now, if he wasn't before.

Oh well, that's put my mind at ease about making a wedding cake look nice. It certainly can't look as bad as any of those! I'm itching to get baking, but waiting for a mini spirit level (yep, you heard right) to arrive so I can try to get the ganache as straight as possible. I think I've watched too many youtube videos.

Hiya

Well, if you don't look at the cake too closely or for too long, it's passable.  SO many things I'd do differently if there was ever a next time.  But I do think - from the front  it's passable.  And, actually, I quite like it.  I'm just upset at the poor standard of *some* of the stencilling.

Oh how I wish we could just teleport it there, though, instead of the half hour or so journey tomorrow.  Or maybe they could invent a car that hovers?  That might do the trick in the meantime - until they get the teleportation sorted.

I haven't taken any pics yet.

Tomorrow, we'll go through the same old same old where I ask my husband to move the cake to the lounge for me, so that I can get a picture.  He will moan that he worries about moving it and the less we do anything to it, the safer it will be.  I'll tell him the light at the back of the house (where the kitchen is and where the cake is) is rubbish.  He'll probably agree to move the cake for me, begrudgingly (but I know it's cause he worries) and that will probably put him in a bad mood....

Right.  Wash to put on, kitchen to tidy, then bed!!!  I'm beyond tired now.  Went to my MIL's for dinner last night so was out all evening and when I got home at 11.30pm I re-started work on the cake...  and finally got to bed at 3.40am.

I did read through some of the posts and made a mental note of what I wanted to say...  but I know I've forgotten some of them.

Kelsey - lovely necklace.  Love the colours.  Customer agreed to go for bright, rich jewel tones for the sugarpaste discs.  But I think I'll still do fairly young, "girly" colours for the jewellery.

Nanny - I love your Star Wars cake.  So beautifully neat and we all know what a pain it is to work with black sugarpaste!

Lizzy - how's your cake coming along?

Well done to everyone who baked for Macmillan!  Several years ago, I made 3 dozen cupcakes and took them into my sons' school for the staff room for the Macmillan coffee morning.  They weren't your bog standard vanilla ...  they were carrot cake with cream cheese frosting; apple crumble muffins; chocolate with IMBC and Amarena cherries...  really luxury flavours!  Anyway, I left a collection pot and a note in the staff room with the 36 cupcakes.  When I went back all 36 cupcakes had gone - and there was a grand total of £19 collection.  I was gutted.  I'd have been better off saving my time and money for ingredients and just putting twenty quid in a collection myself!!

Marvel - I wish you better!

Sock Monkey - I just bought a small spirit level from B&Q.  I wiped with with anti-bac spray and keen it only for **********!

I'm so sorry if I've forgotten anyone!

Night night x x  x

AMorning all.

4.30 Suzanne, your mad bless you but I can saw why.

Thank you for all your comments, it does look black doesn't it? But its actually navy blue and a lot lighter in the flesh.

Sock, I did the same, bought a mini yellow spirit level from B&Q, only a few quid.

Its a lovely scrummy combination choc ganache and caramel, there is some left of each and I'm trying to keep away from the spoons, besides I have a cupcake bouquet next weekend with choc cakes so I'll keep it for then.

ANanny, your cake is brilliant, again! Every time they're perfectly finished, no lumps, no bumps, just perfect!

How is it looking this morning Suzanne? Better for sleeping on it? I'm sure it looks beautiful, you were probably just too close to it last night.

I have to thank you for posting about getting to bed at 3.30 btw. Hubby read that and said it was just like me. I said it's not just you, we all end up doing it! It's just a cakey thing I guess :-D

So I was showing hubby the c*ck cake, as you do, and he scrolled down to this one and I just heard 'Wtf is that?'. I don't think of appreciated it anything like enough last night.

First off, he asked why there are turds all over it. Now bear in mind I am essentially blind workout my lenses, so for me to see this I had to get to about 3 inches from the screen (nope, not exaggerating). From that distance, with what is now macro vision, that cake just didn't stop giving :-D

Initially you see that there are are indeed poos all over it. Then I was looking at the bananas (??) all over the top, when we noticed there's something that I think is meant to be a figure on the top. Then suddenly you see more and more of them, then HOLY MOTHER OF GOD, WHAT IN HELL IS THAT ON THE RIGHT!!?? AAAAHHHHH, THERE'S ANOTHER ONE AT THE BOTTOM!!

I may never sleep again :O

AHow sweet of you lizzy!

I zoomed in, just trying to identify whats on there, its shocking really isn't it, it may look slightly better in real life but as a picture it looks a mess, its even sadder that someone actually paid for this, possibly a kids party etc, really really awful, I've seen better than this on cake wrecks!! Thats saying something.

Suzanne, poor you, what a late night! I'm sure it looks absolutely lovely, hopefully this morning after some rest you'll feel much better about it. Sending the cake delivery fairies your way for the journey, good luck! X

Ooh better get on, running late as cat decided to be a pain and take aaaages to eat her breakfast (she takes medication in it) so not I have half an hour to get dressed and go on 20min drive! Have a good day all!

I have a mini spirit level for cakes. You are not alone.

Barbara another perfect cake!

Mel, I'm well thanks you, how you doin? (Said in a non joey way lol) strictly would be better without all the stuff and nonsense, just dance and shut up lol

Suzanne, I bet it's not as bad as you think. Can't wait to see a picture.

Lizzy hope your cakes coming along.

Kuuushi I see an ant in the penis pic lol

I'm out, can't remember anymore.

I had to have words with my daughters new teacher, she's straight out of teacher training school and looks like she just left primary. The class of 8 year olds are running rings around her and they have had no homework since going back, missing lots of lessons as she can't control them. I went to complain to the head and the receptionist said I should speak to her!! Hoping she ups her game now or she is on the no Apple for teacher cake list lol

AMorning everyone,

I caught up on yesterday's chatter last night but it was late and now I've forgotten what everyone was saying. One thing I can't forget though... Those cakes! OMG what on earth are half of them supposed to be! And she has so completely stolen pictures of the other half! That tray of cupcakes in the black circular tray is bought straight from tesco. She doesn't even have the intelligence to take them out of the tray and put them on a stand or a plate! Wow, just wow!

Beautiful cake nanny, as someone said your cakes are always sooooo smooth, I don't know how you do it.

We were out with friends last night, we don't see them very often because they live in London but are up visiting at the moment. They got engaged a couple of weeks ago and although they haven't booked a venue or anything yet they asked me would I make their wedding cake! OMG, I always said I don't think I could ever make a wedding cake other than my own because of the stress of it but they want me to do it for a more personal touch. Now I'm completely scared, even though I have about a year to plan it, I can't make a wedding cake!! I need to lie down...

AMorning all. :-)

Suzanne I'm glad you got your cake done. And I'm sure it'll look much better this morning. Sometimes I've gone to bed exhausted, not happy with a cake and the next day it doesn't look as bad as I thought and I'm actually quite happy with it. And if you're working in it all day and into the night, something doesn't go right, you're getting fixated and frustrated and tired. You can only see the bad then can't you. After a good sleep you come down and see the cake as a whole and you can see what's good about it. And if you're still unhappy, look at the turd cake again, you're bound to feel better! :-D

Good luck with your delivery Mel.

Have fun shopping nanny. Housework for me today. :-(

AOops, didn't see your posts Siany and sugarluva.

I don't like all the nonsense that goes with strictly Siany. I'm especially disappointed when they have a singer/band in and the professionals don't dance. Have you spoken to other parents in your daughters class? Maybe if enough of you complain, they'll do something. Everyone's got to start somewhere but it shouldn't be at any child's expense should it.

Sugarluva you absolutely can make a wedding cake! How exciting. :-)

Tesco cupcakes, you reminded me! And you were worried about your rugby balls Kuuushi! :-D

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.  Wtf was that bright orange "thing" supposed to be?  To be honest, it's done me a favour really - now I know I'm not as terrible as I thought I was - or is that a horrid thing to say.  I am a bit confused though - I probably missed something as I had to skim through as off to the osteo in a minute - some look good - a bit too good imo.

M4rvel - get well soon.  My son just started teaching and he is sporting a lovely cold right now - must be all these kids sharing their bugs.  Wrap up warm, whisky with lemon juice and paracetamol before bed - that's my prescription.

Suzanne - we are all waiting with baited breath......hope you are not too frazzled.

That cake Sian - yes: not the best cake in the world.  Wasn't Anton a baker before he was a dancer?  You don't think he did it do you?:D  (Maisie it was for Judy Murray who had a birthday - watch it on iPlayer - but skim through her dance - she's a bit wooden).  Blimey that bloke from Eastenders was quite good!

I will check in later and hopefully hear about Lizzy's progress with her surfboarders!

ASugarlurva, do love you aye!

I covered the board and cake in all one, sometimes prefer to do it like that, I spend ages smoothing it tho as lots marks, and because its Sark I think they show up a lot more. Just like Ioan's cake I wanted a continuation of a space thing going on.

Yes, yes, yes to the wedding cake, not that you need the practice but you have a year to perfect it, dont you dare say no.

Yes Kelsey, football's and rugby balls, tut tut.

Whats up with you Kathy? Your not saying you think your in the same league as her do you for crying out loud? No of course your not saying that!! Ooooo, could shake you girlie sometimes.

AHi everyone. I'm new to the group although do feel I "know" you all as I've read the thread from start to finish, you're all so friendly, kind and helpful that it only felt right to join in - i had to finish reading the thread first though. Lol. I've learnt so many useful hints and tips from you all.

I've been baking and decorating cakes for a good few years now and have just taken the plunge in the last few months and set up my own business but unfortunately have yet to get any proper paying customers - gave a good few quotes but never hear anything back. Hoping things pick up in the next few months and I'm going to look into advertising and stuff. Although I don't want things to pick up top much as work two jobs and uni starts again next month plus with a other half and two children life is always busy. But who's isn't.

I'm going to be busy tomorrow as it's my oh's birthday and he wants a ferrari cake, I've never made a car cake before - what did I say about being kept busy, lol.

Sorry for the long first message. xx
