AHa ha ha, chezza, i'm right up there with the typo's.

Oh Gray, no what you mean, I have a 3 tier wedding cake for the 21st, in a castle, getting very nervous about it, which is why I didn't want to take this massive castle on, I wanted a rest I guess.

Can't remember on here whose has done a quilted cake, I did struggle with it, is there a knack? I used the patchwork quilting thingy, but I have the sheet too, didn't like it at all, ok around the front, when I got to the back there enough room for another line of quilting, but had to put one in, how do you get around that?

Just popping on from London whilst I'm waiting for my boyfriend to get out of the shower!

I did a quilting cake a while back and used a good tutorial but I can't find it now. It involved measuring the circumference of your cake so you can divide the size into an even number of triangles, mine worked out about 1inch each. Then stick 2 cocktail sticks to a ruler 1inch apart and go around the top and bottom of your cake making little indents every 1 inch. They just use the rules to mark the lines between the dots and it should come out perfect all the way around. Does that make sense? If I find the tutorial I'll post it.

Tiddy thanks for the info on mexican paste.

Siany hope your cake turned out good and your feeling better.

Ooooh what did you buy Loubee

Why did you turn the castle down Nanny?

I just bought a few moulds and cutters Roxy plus some Christmas ribbon. Got a few ideas for little edible Christmas gifts for my own children and my nephews and niece.

Talking of Christmas who's actually started their shopping yet? Bar a frozen art set I've not bought anything yet. I need to shape myself. It's hard to know what to buy especially as my eldest is 11 and not into things like TV shows and characters like he was when he was younger. Going to try and do a lot of it online as my youngest follows me everywhere so hard to buy anything. Think I need to plan a few solo trips while she stays at home being entertained by Dad.

Nanny don't blame you at all in declining the cake with how much we all stress over cakes it's not worth it at Christmas when you should be enjoying time with your loved ones. Can I ask how did you tell the customer did you just say you were fully booked?

I need to go food shopping later and also want to start my Christmas cake today so need to get all the stuff for that. Can I ask all of you in the know I've never made a Christmas cake before and usually like nanny I bake all my cakes in two halves but that's not going to work with a Christmas cake is it, so i'll have to bake it all in one big tin?

AAlso regarding the quilting I remember Jo did hers by hand too. Speaking of Jo where are you seems like you've not been on for a while.

Sugarluva hope you're enjoying yourself in London.

ALoubee

I have got most oft xmas shopping done now. Started in September lol. Got three smalls one big and one grand baby so need to spread it out a bit.

Christmas cake, yep all in one. You wouldn't fill a fruitcake so no need for two halves. Just bake it slow and it'll be fine. Don't forget to double line the tin and newspaper to the outside of the tin. It won't catch fire, don't worry :)

Kuuushi, good luck with the new venture! Hopefully it gets to the point you can jack work in!

Gray, wow wow wow that's fabulous! Love Mr's Gray's design too! What's a full globe cake?

Siany, hope you're feeling better today and can finish your cake. It looks delicious!

Kathy, yes hubby saw the cake first thing when he woke up so he had something to see apart from his cards. The surprise worked really well, should have seen hubby's face when he opened the door to see his best friend and his wife at the door LOL. Ah well left overs for the next few days saves me cooking! I know I've already tasted the cut offs when I was carving the cake, but the flavour improved and tasted even better last night. I had some with cream :-D

Wow nanny 11 turrets? Seems a lot for a two tier! I used the same technique as sugarluva for doing the quilting.

Marvel and Argylealice, thank you!

We've devoured half of the cake now

ALovely time yesterday with Debbie Brown. We did a Cinderella topper. There was a young lady there who had already made 3 wedding cakes and she was only 14 years old....amazing!

Great Castle cake Gray. You must be pleased with how the car turned out, Jean. Looked like it went down well. Loved the colours and the bird on your lace cake Barbara. You did right to turn that cake down for the New Year. With your order book before Christmas you will need some "downtime" with the family.

Good luck with the new venture Kuuushy.

Not having a great day as my poorly cat seems to have taken a down turn. Very sad!

Thanks Jean. It's actually sugarpaste with some CMC as this was a topper, but it could be carved out of cake.

AEvening all. :-) I can't believe how much I had to catch up on! I'll do my best but, you know me and my memory, I'm bound to forget someone do apologies in advance!

Welcome to the thread smysha and argylealice. Re sugarpaste I like SPD and culpitt. Tesco's is ok if that's all I've got, don't think much of dr oetker's and I hate Renshaws.

Lovely m and m cake, can't remember whose it was tho.

Jean your car was brilliant, you did really well, bet you were chuffed.

Lovely cakes nanny, the bag turned out great, you were worrying about nothing! And I can't see anything wrong with your quilting, looks perfectly good to me.

Congrats on winning the bake off m4rvel, love the peppa pig cake, they're hard to make aren't they. Or maybe it was just me! Love the apron.

Gray I think that's the best castle cake I've ever seen! Sorry to everyone else who's put castle cakes on here btw. It's fabulous Gray, you and mrs Gray make a good team. Make the globe cake Gray, you know you want to! :-D

Gorgeous topper Lynne! 14?! Blimey, I'd love to see her cakes.

Enjoy your holiday sugarluva, I'd love to see photos when you're back, I'm sooooo jealous.

Get well soon Siany. X

RIP Kuuushi's car. :-( And good luck with your new ventures.

Nanny I'm going to your cake shop Wednesday to hire a tin and pick some edible images up. I spoke to them on the phone, said you'd recommended them on CC so you should ask them for an "introducing new customers" discount next time you're there. :-)

I've been sooo busy this week and I'm even busier next week. Why does everything come at once?! I've got hospital appointments (to take other people to) at four different hospitals in two weeks! I haven't made my niece a cake, I just haven't had time. I probably won't be making my friend one either. My stepsons will take all my time I think, I'm dreading it! Looking forward to having a go but so worried it's not going to turn out well.

I've been to the theatre with Leah today to a frozen singalong. It was very noisy and very expensive and Leah loved every second. :-D

I'll check again later to see if I've missed anyone but I swear I've been on here an hour already! Loving the baked hubby's and tragic gum btw! :-D

AThat would be lovely nanny! I'm taking my auntie to physio in Pontypool at 11 then I have to take her home to Cwmbran before I can leave. I know my wY to Blackwood, I've followed the signs to ystrad before but it was years ago, I'm hoping it'll come back to me as I go! I won't know a time until after physio. If you're ok with that I could text you when I'm about to leave? I'm just getting busier and busier, my house is fast becoming a pigsty!
