I'm very interesd in lerning more on decorating cakes. I love baking cakes although I'm not so good at decorating . I guess partof the reason is I don't have much time. But I've decided I want to learn! I thought about taking one of the Wilton classes? What does Class 1 consist of? Waht do they teach? I really want to learn but I don't want to waste my time. I work full time, I have a 1 year old daughter and I'm 4 months pregnant so I cherish the 2-3 hours I get to spend with my baby.

Can someone please tell me what they teach in the Class 1? Also, did you think it was worth it?

I have 2 kids 16 months apart so I know what your life will be like and what it is now!! and I would say go for it.. it's only one night a week only 4 weeks each and you don't have to do all the courses at once... I am about to start the next course with a couple of ladies that took course 1 and 2 last year and just got around to finishing.

I love the courses. Even though I would have loved a better instructor... I still think they are worthwhile.. just to have the time to practice and have someone show you face to face without just reading it in a book and figuring out what they mean. If I had taught myself I would always wonder if I was doing it the "right" way... if you know what I mean.

Course 1 was a big focus on the wilton Rose... We also learned the star tip, zig zag, shell border, sweet peas, piping, bows, writing...

I think the courses are worth it. I had toyed with decorating for years before taking the courses and I learned a lot in course one.
Course one may repeat a few things you know but I think you will still get enough new knowledge from it that it will be well worth your while.

I enjoyed the classes so much that I became an instructor. Scoobam covered all the basic techniques learned in course 1. Don't forget the clowns - aren't those a blast to make and everybody loves them. You do get alot out of the classes and the individual teacher/student attention really works well with learning techniques quickly. I'd say go for it even if I weren't an instructor. Good luck

How much do these "beginner" classes cost? Is it different in every region, or pretty much the same? And are these the same classes that they offer at places like Michael's?

The basic price for the classes are $25.00 no matter if it's course 1, 2, 0r 3 but Wilton ALWAYS run specials - Bring a friend free, Buy the class and buy the kit for a penny, 1/2 price. Each month is different. Just call the store your near that holds the classes and ask them what the special is. If you take course 1 - at the end of the course the instructor is supposed to hand out "Bounce Back" coupons worth $5.00 - so say the next class is offered at the 1/2 price fee of $12.50 - you can also use the coupon and end up paying only $7.50. It really is a bargain.
The first course you will have to buy some supplies besides the Course 1 kit so expect to spend some cash. It's not a whole lot but don't go in thinking that the class and the kit is all you'll have to spend. The Wilton classes are all taught the same. All instructors have the same workbooks to teach from - region doesn't matter. I teach at Michaels myself but it doesn't matter what store your taking the classes at. Hope this answers some of your questions.

I really do appreciate all the info and will be calling my Michael's store tomorrow to find out if/what they offer and when!
