Texans! Elite icing from HEB

Everyone is always talking about the Elite icing from HEB. Well I finally tried some this weekend and the smell of it reminds me of marshmallow fondant. Is this a marshmallow icing. Does anyone know? People keep asking for cakes with this sort of icing.

Hmmm.... I'll have to try this out! Not sure if its marshmellow or not, but if it is, I want to try it! Thanks for the tip!

Its their version of whipped icing. I dont beleive its buttercream. Your supposed to refrige. it.

There is a recipe on here that I use and people compare it to elite icing. Its called "Best Butter Cream Ever.

HEB is a large grocery store chain in Texas. I haven't ever tried or heard of the elite icing. I will have to try next time I go to the grocery store.

I love the elite icing from HEB, but I have no clue whats in it. It was my favorite until I started making my own cakes and using buttercream, now I don't think I can say that it is my favorite. I think people like it because thats all they know. Once people get out of the grocery store and into a bakery I think hands down BC is the best! ( or maybe I'm just being partical ) icon_lol.gif Have your customers taste your BC and see if it can be compared to HEB's elite. I doubt it icon_biggrin.gif

I know my local HEB sells it for $5.00 a lb. I dont know if it is worth the money.......I personally love my buttercream recipe better! (its taste great and I get more per batch)

I have bought some bettercreme and thought it tasted very similar to the elite and its priced better at 22.00 for a 5 gallon bucket. Only problem is I dont ever need that much icing.....well except holidays!

AmyGonzalez, do you have time to tell us your bc recipe that you use and love? There are sooo many different kinds. icon_confused.gif Like does your recipe use real butter? Is it a crusting bc? Do you say bc and use only shortening? Is it half shortening and half butter? etc...

My recipe is very simple. I use 1/2 cup shortning, (crisco) 1/2 cup real salted butter, 1 tsp clear vanilla extract, 1 box power sugar, and 2-3 tbs milk. Sometimes for a tangy taste I use 1 tbs meringue powder.

famousamous - I have tried a very similar recipe for whipped cream buttercream frosting that is like the best butter cream ever.
Elite icing feels a little sticky to me. Has anyone tried a recipe like this?

i work for heb and we dont even know whats in it! it comes in a bag in liquid form and we just mix it and presto icing, i would compare it to cool whip, except it does not need refrigeration. its texture is light and airy like cool whip. plus its delicious! but it is expensive at $5.00lbs!

Too expensive if you ask me at 5.00 per pound. Wow!!! I, personally like my buttercream recipe and since I have been making my own I do not want to buy it already made. I agree that the store brand icing does not match up to homemade icing!!!
