Grandma-to-be changed her mind and now wants a Moses basket cake to feed 40. Country club set. Help, I am fried and need your wisdom.
Thanks,

how about making a bassinet cake with brown basket weave and adding fondant handles.......
sports ball -- 1/2
long loaf pan or sheet cake cut length wise and stacked or rounds split in half to get half a circle shape
cut sports ball half in half for the two rounded ends.
stack sheets or use long loaf or arrange 1/2 rounds on edge (trim to get flat side to stand on) to make the body of the basket.
attach 1/2 sports ball half to each end. (skewers, BC or melted chocolate for glue)
then use 1 more 1/2 of a half sports ball to make the canopy of the basket (like done for bassinet cakes)
cover all in basketweave -- but use a round tip (or even multiple sizes of rounds) to get the woven branch look-- purposefully make some sections thicker or thinner to get the effect of real branches.
alternate method for hood: lightly grease outside of sports ball pan -- use royal icing to create a basket weave hood. when dry, remove from pan and place on cake.
for extra realism....cut about an 1 inch down into the top of the basket to make a depression. Add fondant baby and then cover w/ fondant blanket.
