I have Converse Allstar show in my photos. It was my first real carved cake and I made if for my niece. I've been asked how much to make that cake again. I know we don't like "how much should I charge" questions here because there are so many difference variables. Normally I charge about $3 for buttercream and $4-5 for fondant depending on the complexity. I don't even know where to begin to figure this one out. Nor do I know how many servings it might be. It's probably equivalent to a size 8-9 lifesize shoe.

Isn't price the most difficult part of this entire process?? Makes me crazy every time. I'm watching this because I want to know for myself. I'm getting more and more requests for sculpted cakes. I love doing them until they ask "how much?"

I would venture to guess about 15-20 servings.I charge $5.00 per serving for my 3D cakes and then add extra for more embellishments like fondant work etc..I would say about $120.00 to $150.00 just by the picture I see.

How many did that shoe serve? Unless it was sitting on a cake I would have guessed 10 servings tops. Then again Im surrounded by hungry teenage boys

I also charge from $4 for my fondant-covered, and from $5 for carved inc Mad Hatter. It probably should be a bit more!

@Kiddiekakes - We served the cake at dinner, so my family numbered 8 and we didn't finish it (that's not to say we couldn't have). But I don't think there was more than the heel portion left, so maybe 4 more pieces?

I was leaning to about $100 I think. It did take some time to get the cake carved properly.

If someone were to say they wanted a cake like that to serve 20-25 people would you make them two shoes, or would you do one and maybe stick it on a rectangle to represent a shoe box.

Personally, I like the idea of doing the shoe with a shoebox next to it, possibly with the "lid" kind of off to the side a little with some "tissue" and a shoelace representing the other shoe sticking out. That way you have enough cake but don't have to go through the hassle of carving two shoes.

carved cakes are charged more for the labor than for the number of servings. When I had someone come in and ask about these kinds of cakes, I'd tell them, "They are $150 to start, and that's before I even pick up a pencil to find out what you want."

I love your shoe!! Fantastic! I would agree...sculpted cakes start at $150...too much work is involved. I also love the idea of creating a shoe box for additional servings. That elimates the frustration of trying to replicate the other shoe EXACTLY. With two of them side by side, their differences would stand out to me. Carved cakes are one of a kind edible work of art and should be price as such. Don't sell yourself short.
