Hi everyone,

I am in the East Bay/South Bay San Francisco area...to be exact I work in San Ramon and live in San Jose. I am wondering where you fellow cake decorators get your fondant. I am trying to find out if it is easier to just buy a tub of fondant instead of making MMF all the time. What do the rest of you do?

I buy my fondant. I made it once and decided my I didn't want to take the time to do it. Plus then I always have it on hand and don't have to stop and make some more. I buy it from www.intotheoven.com they have the best prices to me but since you are in CA you might want to try cal java.

Thank you for your input...I don't know of any bakery around here that supplies stuff like that although here in the bay I can't imagine that there are no stores. It is a hassle to make the fondant and I think it would save me a lot of time to buy it...thanks!

Hello fellow San Jose resident. We are on the border of Milpitas. So far just Michael's. My BIL owns 3 bakeries & makes his own but I know he knows good places to buy from. However he has never been a helpful person & getting that information has been tough. I will keep trying & if I ever get a answer I will pass it on.

I have bought a few things from a great little store called the Cake Works (www.cakeworks.com). Not sure if it is San Jose or Santa Clara & they don't have great hours but they have great fondant.

Come over the hill and see me, I am in Concord. I wish I could say we had wonderful cake supply outlets in our area, but we really don't. I would guess San Jose probably has more to offer. I understand there is a shop in Daly City but have not be there and don't even know the name.
We have Albert Uster in San Leandro, but a $100.00 minimum order. Marque Foods in S. San Francisco has online ordering, wonderful customer service and fast shipping, but they do specialize more in food products than cake decorating equipment. We have Cash & Carry in our area and they have good prices on cake circles and boxes, and they carry Pastry Pride. Smart & Final also carries Pastry Pride.

I lived in Concord while attending culinary school - and I had trouble finding cake stuff too (which is why I got all my stuff either in San Francisco or San Rafael). Totally off topic, the one thing I miss about Concord, was going to Grand Avenue Chocolates for those giant caramel apples. Yum!

I live in Hollister, and work in San Jose. I buy my fondant from cakedeco.com . Good prices and shipping is a fair price. I also shop at cake works in san jose. Julie made my wedding cake 10 years ago and did my sister. Some stuff is a little high I just go their when needed. I mostly buy the stuff I need online.

I found the best customer service from Into the Oven. Their prices are similar to others, but it's the CS that brings me back!

Here in Hollister, there isn't much to choose from, aside from Michael's.
I hear Cake Works is a good stop.

Have fun!

I live in pleasanton so not far from your work place. I bought satin ice from a cake supply store in Berkeley called "spun sugar". It was expensive though. I got a much better deal online on intotheoven... They also delivered really quickly.HTH
