I like to make my own, but I'm going to do a Valentine's project at my kids' preschool, and it needs to be store-bought (health code regulations). So, which brand do you think tastes best?
I have only tried Wilton, which I can flavor with LorAnn oils and get decent, but never near as good as the homemade stuff.
Satin Ice?
FondX?
Fondarific?

Any opinions... and "what" it tastes like, too, is helpful.

Thanks!
Beki

Wilton is the worst I've tried.

Satin Ice is OK--really chewy marshmallow, texture is softer than wilton.

Fondarific is OK, too--the flavors are good, sort of like chewy buttercream. The texture is denser and chewier than satin ice. I like the flavor better here, but I don't like the texture as far as eating it is concerned. It is easy to work with.

SatinIce is good. I've tried ChocoPan and i love how it handles, but don't care for the taste as much. Haven't tried the others (besides Wilton, phewey icon_razz.gif ) so can't help there.

Fondarific! I think it tastes good (I buy the buttercream flavor) and it is really easy to work with. It doesn't get sticky or dry. My kids like playing with it too. Like edible play dough!

For cupcakes I'd go with either Fondx or Fondariffic. The taste of both of them is better than Satin Ice (IMHO) but they are softer and easier to bite into on a cupcake than SI.

i recently got a sample of fondant from a company called amoretti - and this was the best tasting fondant i've ever tried. of course, ive only ever tried wilton and homemade mmf so i might not be the best person to give an opinion...but wow, theirs really tasted good, it tastes just like buttercream.

Fondarific is my all time favorite. Easy to work with and wonderful tasting. The texture is that of a typical fondant. The only fondant that I think feels different than the other fondants I've tried is Wilton, and that stuff is just NASTY all the way around.

I use Satin Ice regularly. It tastes much better than Wilton and I have found it fairly easy to work with; however, the pre-colored Satin Ice tends to be a bit softer.

I recently had a chance to use Massa Ticino and I loved it. It has a very neutral, sugary flavor. No overt chemical taste. Also, it had the best workability of anything I have used.

One more vote for Fondarific buttercream flavor. Tastes good, easy to work with, and I've colored it with no problems.

How do you get FONDX to work?
I have a 15 lb bucket and no matter what I do this thing tears. I was about to throw it in the trash. And, I think it develops elephant skin really fast.
What is the trick to using this thing? icon_confused.gif

I personally like Choco-pan....has a light white chocolate taste to it. Used Satin Ice for over a year. Myself, along with others that actually tried it did not like the taste either. And then as the others above, Wilton is nasty. Then there is MMF, I personally don't like the taste of a ton of marshmallows.....so I don't prefer it, but my kids loved it.

Still need to order some Fondarific to sample......
