What advice do you wish you had taken or wish you had known when you first started? I know when you start anything, someone is always giving you advice and a lot of times you ignore it or you do not know enough to realize that it is good advice until later then you had a "darn it I knew that!" moment.

A pizza cutter is a decorators best friend when it comes to fondant work.

don't buy cheap tools/equipment "for now", with an idea of getting better stuff later. Bite the bullet, save up the money and get the good stuff in the beginning. It's actually cheaper in the long run.
