I use a white or yellow cake mix, 1/3 cup key lime juice, 2/3 cup milk, 1/4 cup sugar, 4 eggs, 1 TBS key lime zest (or regular lime zest if you can't find fresh key limes).

This makes a good key lime cake. You can use a key lime pie filling as the filling for a cake, which makes it even more like key lime.

I used the above recipe for a wedding cake and got many compliments. I just replaced the juice with key lime juice and the zest with lime zest (it might be hard to get key limes). You can do the same with a lemon curd recipe for a filling and just use key lime juice instead of lemon juice. Or a keylime filling, just like for a pie, like Tiffysma, said is a great idea.
It's a really nice recipe!

The link tht was sent for the lemon curd filling, on the scratch baker's thread...that's not a good method for making lemon curd as it is very easy for your yolks to cook directly on heat. Use a double boiler and you won't even have to strain it.

Do whisk together in the bowl over the double boiler the yolks, sugar, and juice and cook until it thickens.
Then take off the heat and have your soften butter out, add it after it cools down some so it emulsifies.
