What are the benefits of simple syrup? Is it good to cut down on crumbs?

I think it can be used to seal in crumbs, make cakes moister, and if flavored, add another flavor dimension to your cake.

I use simple syrup on all my cakes. It makes the cake very moist. As far as cake crumbs, I think it does help. When you frost the cake make sure you refrigerate the cake for a couple of minutes so that the cake crumbs set when you frost it the first time.
