Inspired by a cake I found online, this is a cake I did for a friend who is a zombie fanatic. I personally do not enjoy looking through pictures of zombies or zombie cakes, so when I came across this idea I thought it was a good compromise. She gets her zombie cake, but it's still kind of 'pretty.' It is a 9 inch cake with rolled fondant covering. The hand is made out of aluminum foil ( I know that's a faux pas, but it was for a friend - I'd never send one out with something inedible on it) and covered with fondant. The blood is corn syrup mixed with red food coloring.

I made this cake for a very good friend's October birthday, who is a huge horror and comic fan. This was made custom to look like him. It was a surprise for him and he absolutely loved it.
The tombstone is red velvet cake covered in fondant. The zombie is red velvet cake covered in fondant. The fingers are all fondant and the grass/ground is fondant. The dirt is made from chocolate sandwich cookies (minus their cream layer) and ginger snaps ground up in the food processor. It was hand painted with gel food colorings mixed like watercolors.

This was for a little boy who is turning 11 on Halloween. He wanted something gross, scary, creepy, weird, etc. etc. This is what I came up with. The bottom tier is a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream. The top tier is white cake with vanilla buttercream. The dirt is ground up oreos (the ones with the fudge filling). The fingers were cookies, I found the recipe on CC. The bugs, eyes, ears, and mouth were made from fondant. I used coconut flakes that I dyed brown for the eyebrows. The blood was piping gel tinted reddish brown. It was a hit! I'm just glad to get it out of my kitchen because it scared me more everytime I saw it!

This cake is ALL edible! The zombie head and arms are sculpted from cereal treats, and I used a combination of fondant and white modeling chocolate for everything else. The cake part makes the outer rectangle. I was asked to make Halloween cake for the US Coast Guard party in my area and was given no direction. So this is what I came up with :) Bon Appetit!!
