I made this cake for a realy great friend that collects frogs. The cake is all done in buttercream, the lilly pad and letters are fondant/gum paste and the frog is a stuffed frog (keep sake). She loved it.

First attempt at both using fondand and a Whimsical Cake. Not quite as crooked as I wanted, but next time will be better... and smaller. Comments/critiques welcome. (Thanks for the how-to Very informative! Strange pixeled spot is covering big shadow, sorry)

This is a birthday cake I did for my niece and two nephews in VA. It's been 2 years since I've seen them and I promised them I would make a cake for all three of them. They loved it!! All covered in chocopan (whew so hard to handle! LOL). Bottom layer is WASC, middle is Hershey chocolate cake, and top is coconut white cake. Yummy!!!

Here's another view of the cake after we ate the top tier. My SIL had guess coming but the kids wanted to eat cake so we decided to get rid of the top tier for the kids and saved the bottom tiers for her guests. I think it came out okay after doing "first aid" on it. Thanks for looking!

2,4,6,9" tiers, the bottom tier was a petal pan, the 6" was carved, and the 2" was cut using a deep biscuit cutter. each tier was around 4" high. the theme for this celebration was proverbs 31...lavender satin ice fondant, dark purple is painted with vodka, electric purple airbrush color and mauve luster dust mixture. scratch amaretto cake with vanilla espresso swiss meringue buttercream. silk ranunculus, swavaroski (sp?) crystals. pearl dust and gold dust accents on freehand royal icing. with tip #3 .

This isn't really a wedding cake, but it is a Whimsical cake, and doesn't really fit in anywhere else. This is one of my display cakes made for the 2007 ICES convention.

My first whimsical. I was really disappointed about how this cake turned out. There was a third layer that turned to mush! So I got rid of it. This was for a co-workers son who recently graduated. His school colors were brown and orange. All MMF top layer white, bottom layer devil's food. The mush bottom layer was carrot

3 layers of coconut butter cake and 3 layers of vanilla butter cake, all iced with sugarshack's buttercream then covered in rhonda's ultimate MMF. black dots are painted on with RI, monogram topper is RI in white, then painted with black RI - a fun "going away" cake that my cousin helped me decorate (it was for her friend)

This was the cake that I mentioned in a previous thread about the birthday girl calling to order her own cake and the mom called and wanted something smaller. This is the smallest topsy turvy I have ever done - 4" and 8", covered in fondnt with a fondant/fixodent 16 on top. Both tiers are chocolate fudge cake.

My sister wanted something brightly coloured as a gift cake for a friend's 2st. 4inch cake with the bottom layer carved to give the tilt. Top layer is light purple fondant that is airbrushed in purple to give the vivid colour. Bottom layer is white fondant that has been painted with green royal icing. Strawberries and "21" are modeling paste. "21" was supposed to be standing up, but the cake would be too tall for the box. Edilbe purple glitter on top.

This cake was actually made for a friends baby shower but I thought it looked more like a birthday cake. The bottom layer was a fudgy chocolate with raspberry filling/icing and the top was white with lemon curd and lemon butter icing. The colors were not quite as loud as the picture shows. This was a blast to make...Enjoy looking.

I made this to look like invite for a party. All fondant accents. I made the candle and 40 out of gumpaste because it dries harder.

the host of this shower wanted everything over the top. Her colors were hot pink and purple. I was not sure how this was going to look, but she insisted. I think if you like those colors it turned out well. Not my favorite.

Can you guess how old they are? This was supposed to be a tiered cake, but sort of morphed into whimsical as the construction evolved.

10" and 8" round cakes. Butter cream frosting with fondant accents. The client just gave me the colors she wanted the cake to be and said to make it 'girly'. lShe left the design up to me. (I love it when that happens heehee) Anyway, I'm pleased with how it turned out. Thanks to all you for being so helpful and inspirational.

this cake was designed for a family who was celebrating 5 birthdays in one week. Full artistic liberty was granted...which is so nice. :)

The bottom tier (12") is a white chocolate cake with white chocolate and rum mousse and fresh strawberries. Middle tier (9") was a chocolate cake with dark chocolate ganache filling, and the top tier (6") was an orange-pineapple carrot cake with orange cream cheese filling, all wrapped with MMF. MMF, Gumpaste and SatinIce were used in the decorations.

Here's the cake with the candles. I was running out of time to get the cake ready before the party started, so I ended up getting two number 2 candles and dipping them in melted chocolate. Before the chocolate set, I place edible pearls on the numbers. I took long, straight candles I found at the grocery store, warmed them under warm running water, and twisted them. I had to use some of the melted chocolate under the numbers for them to stay standing. It looked okay. I liked the look sans candles....

Make this one for Jan, my cake decorating teacher who turned 60 this week-end. She is still on-the-go, energic, and I think this colours represent her personality. All MMF, had a lot of problem with it. My first 3 tiers and whimsical cake, 8, 6, 4. The inspirations are a mixed of the works in CC. TFL.

This is my very 1st topsy turvey cake that I did for my BIL who is a helicopter pilot. I am really proud of how it came out, I like the tilt but also this is the smoothest I have ever been able to get BC before. Now I just need to work on crisping my edges. It is a simple yellow cake iced and filled with blue BC. The black and white clouds are color flow and there was supposed to be a helicopter on the top but it did not dry in time. Thank goodness it was for a family member and not for a client. Thanks for looking!

This was a cake I did a couple of weeks ago, but I forgot my camera and had to wait for the photographer to send me the pics! Cake was a basic vanilla 1-2-3-4 cake with mango, coconut and key lime IMBC fillings and IMBC frosting under the fondant. I modeled the bride and groom after the actual couple. He has a Harley like the one on the cake and the bride wanted to incorporated it into the design. Harley is not sugar, but its sign is. Bride and Groom were all fondant - flowers as well.
