I got the idea for this after seeing some of the other "non-conforming" cakes. I had 2 differently sized square (chocolate/vanilla marble) cakes, and decided to offset stack them. I added a star cupcake (made in a silicone mold) to the top. I drizzled warm chocolate frosting over the top, and spattered warm cream cheese icing over that. I would have liked different candles, but as this was something thrown together at the last minute, I was satisfied.

I made this cake for my brother's 24th birthday, today. He request a blue whimsical cake. This was what I came up with. I hope he likes it. The top tier is chocolate irish cream cake and the bottom tier is chocolate kahlua cake. Both have coffee IMBC as filling. Decorated with marshmallow fondant.

I did this cake as a practice cake. It was my first time using MMF (which I liked working with). I had some support issues, but the over all design turn out pretty much how I had planned.

Here is my Ode to Dr. Seuss. I made all of the characters with sugarveil(my first time with it; love it!!) The hat is made of rice cripsy treats and covered in fondant. The swirls and pompoms are made of gumpaste. This was a lot of fun and I am so happy with the sugarveil system; it's a godsend for someone like me who cannot draw freehand.

This is a whimsical wedding cake done entirely out of marshmallow fondant. The brides colors were hot pink, hot orange, and yellow. There are 5 others cakes around this one, totalling about 300 servings.

This was very difficult as my second topsy cake. The top layer was supposed to be facing other way with the slant, but wouldn't fit. The angles were too extreme. The Pink icing took on a weird vinegar smell for some reason, I cut it off to serve. I put in wooden dowels, so the cake didn't fall or anything.

Had to start this cake VERY VERY late at night so I didn't get to do what I wanted (which was fondant cut-outs over bc). But it turned out okay. All done in bc. Topper made out of MMF painted with pearl dust and pink sparkle dust (I think, too tired to remember right now). Small smash cake for birthday girl in bc also.

This cake was not as easy as I thought it would be. The top is leaning way too much, I cut the wrong layer on an angle then tried to fix it. But thank goodness it didn't fall!! And my niece loved it! Thank you to all who answered a barrage(sp?) of questions over the last couple of weeks.

This is my first attempt at making a topsy turvy cake. A friend wanted one for her daughter's first birthday. It was truly a learning experience. I know that next time things with go together much more smoothly. It was fun trying though.

This was a monster cake! 14" and 12" layers, both 4" tall, provided by a local bakery where the mother LOVES their buttercream. Brought to me with only crumb coating and 2 cups of extra frosting. Added my pillow cake on top and additional flourishes to make it match the 23 individual princess cakes that went with this order... will post next.

I was practicing at home with my first 3 layered cake. Got a little sloppy at the end, and also wasn't 100 percent level, but did another cake similar the next weekend and got it much better.

This was my furst attemp at a Topsy Turvy cake. Looked great, until it fell over during the night. I saved top, but I had to re-decorate. I had to completely re-do bottom. Fixed cake pic is coming next. I think I just made bottom to narrow.....among other things.

This was for my cousin's 15th b-day. The tiers are 4, 6 , and 8" in addition to the dress. It was made with the mini wonder pan. The dress itself was made with marshmellow fondant as well as all the other little details. She had come to visit my family and I from Costa Rica; and it was the first time meeting her, so I was really glad I could make her something she could really enjoy!

Made this for one of my dance team girls who celebrated her birthday during competition this weekend. Top and bottom were strawberry and middle was yellow with a touch of orange flavor. Buttercream icing and fondant flowers. Everything edible except for the toadstools and topper base. It was fun to make - my first time modeling fondant and this is a very scaled down interpretation of an amazing cake I saw - can't remember the website now :(

This is my first attempt at working with chocolate. I chose the daisies featured in the WBH cookbook. A few of the stems broke as I lifted them off the paper, but it wasn't as bad as I expected and best of all, they look pretty good for a beginner. I will definitely have to keep practicing. I used chocolate wafers and candy colors to tint each small batch. I outlined the dark chocolate first, then filled them in with the other colors.

My first topsy turvy cake. Fondant decorations, letters and spirals. I should have put a border around the bottom where the fondant got messed up when I assembled it onsite.

Friend's 8 year old wanted a "singing" cake with lime, purple and orange stripes. ?? This is what I came up with....not particularly happy with it as I haven't quite perfected the topsy-turvy thing, but she loved it. Buttercream with chocolate accents and chocolate "CD" on top.

The cake that shouldn't have been - but turned out okay! Only the grace of God held it together! At 2 am last night a chunk of the 2nd layer just fell off - and it was glued back with buttercream. The cake was a disaster the whole way through - layers that wouldn't stay up, fondant troubles, monkeys falling apart, poked a hole in the side with one of the dowels.... AUGH! There is a reason these are also called Mad Hatter - that's what you end up being at the end - MAD! Thanks to everyone for keeping me sane

I have wanted to do a whimsical cake for a long time, thanks to Joannah for the inspiration. All bc with MMF accents and roses. These are the "circle roses" that Duff showed, real easy to do. I like out it turned out although I wish it needed to feed more people. Strawberry marble cake with bc filling.
