Whew! This cake was a lot of work! I had NO idea how to go about this cake, so it probably took me a lot longer than it should have. Now that I know what to do, I would definitely do some things differently next time...that is, if I ever decide to tackle such a task again! This is a 10 in stacked with an 8 in and frosted with buttercream and sprayed with pearl luster spray. I used with Wilton castle cake set, but I covered the spires and turrets with fondant and rolled the turrets in yellow sanding sugar. I used a press to make the stone-like texture. I'm exhausted!

These cakes were fun to make! I used the Wilton egg shaped pan and then frosted the cakes, covered them with fondant and decorated with buttercream and fondant bows. I personalized them and they were a huge hit!

This is an old fashioned stack cake. Usually, this cake is made with multiple layers filled with apple butter, but I decided to use strawberry puree and boy howdy! Was it ever good!

Small Little Mermaid cake that was frosted in buttercream and then covered in fondant. Everything on the cake is edible, except for Ariel herself and the pink coral directly behind her. I made my own coral, but it just didn't look quite as cool as this one did, so I used it instead. I used a flower shaped pan to bake the cake.

I had a request for a "whimsical" cake and that was the only description. Well....I decided to do a gnome coming out of his little home and working in the garden. The cake is French vanilla and so is the buttercream. I didn't smooth the buttercream, because I wanted it to look rough and more like something you would find in nature. Everything else is made from fondant.

The fondant gum paste bow has been given a leather effect by giving it a couple of coats of confectioners glaze and the accents have been coated with black glitter.

The graduates Mom wanted a cake to represent her daughter's high school activities. I made a topper which incorporated basketball, soccer, yearbook, music, piano, Bible and graduation. The cake is red velvet with cream cheese icing, fondant accents, and gumpaste banner. The base of the graduation cap is rice krispie treats covered with fondant and the top is cardboard covered in fondant.

Topsy Turvy or Mad Hatter Birthday Cake.
The cake is a 6"/8"/10" combination frosted in buttercream. Decorated with fondant and gumpaste. Ball trim is Sixlet candy. There was also a smash cake and 6 dozen marshmallow pops to go along with the cake. I didn't get a picture of all the goodies together though.
This was my first topsy turvy cake and boy, was it stressful! I'm undecided if I would ever attempt another one. After a 40 minute delivery drive that included lots of bumps, curves and hills on a country backroad.....my nerves were shot!
It made it in one piece with no problems I could detect and they loved it, so that's what's important.

This was a test cake for a larger cake that I later completed. Bottom tier is 6in, the top is 6in that I shaved down to match the proportion. Iced in buttercream, decorations in fondant.

For such a small cake (8"), this cake was a lot of work. I thought 2D would be easier than 3D, but found out that I was wrong! Not really so much hard to do, but time consuming, cutting out individual pieces, etc. Cake is Cookies and Cream cake with vanilla bean buttercream filling and covered in MMF. The top of the cake is matching to a picture my friend had and then she wanted it to be a very whimsical garden setting on bottom. Cupackes had an individual, fondant, polka dot, snail or ladybug on top. TFL

Cat in the hat cake I made for a little girls 1st birthday. I was given a photo of her outfit and asked to build a cake to match. The topsy turvy, crooked, whimsy look seems to go well with a Dr. Seuss theme.

For my son's 2nd birthday, to take to his creche. As soon as I saw this design (from The Whimsical Bakehouse) I loved it. The animals are all made of piped chocolate. The cake is covered in buttercream. I made forty animals, so every child at creche could have one each... took ages! But I loved doing it, and chocolate is so much fun to work with.
