I chose the moment where Ponyo was running on the water, and the waves were morphing into fish.

This was brought together by a whole lot of ideas from folks at Cake Central. The cake was a chocolate gluten free cake with jaffa buttercream, coated in a thin layer of blue marbled fondant. The sand was crumbed biscuits, the ocean was royal icing in differing shades of blue and white for the tips of the waves and covered with homemade (recipe from Cake Central) piping gel. There are tiny sea shells, thongs, beach towel and beach hat. Along with rocks and greenery all made with flower paste. The dolphin also made from sugarpaste and dusted with lustre dust. The edging of the cake is with corinthian biscuits. Sign was made with flower paste and put on with some tooth picks and hidden with some flower paste nails.

I believe this is tonedna's design (I did make it previously and I know that credit is correct). I really wanted to do a different beach cake but the bride only wanted to "pick" a cake I already did. BC covered, fondant waves, and white chocolate shells.

This is a Debbie Brown inspired cake. Daffy and his raft are made from fondant, adrift on a fondant covered cake. The waves were pinched and hopefully you can see that they reach out over the sides of the cakes. The waves were painted with royal icing. The cake was cut on an angle to give it a sense of movement.

This was my second attempt at cake making. This cake originally started out as a three tier cake with fruit fillings. I made this cake the day before the party and as it sat on the counter the bottom tier decided to slide causing the whole cake to fall upside down on the floor. I then had to remake the whole cake in which I decided to just stick with two tiers. I learned a lot that day about filling cakes. and using supports.

My DH made this cake for my birthday. This was his first time actually doing an entire cake by himself. The bottom tier is chocolate cake with Bavarian cream filling, the top was peach cake with whipped cream filling. BC icing. Tink, never-land and the ship are all made out of fondant. I think he did an excellent job and what a surprise it was for me!!

This was a cake that I put together really fast in an afternoon for my neighbor's daughter's 15th birthday. The neighbor and daughter had made the flip-flops in advance so that saved some time. The tiki man was RKT covered in chocolate fondant. The base cake cover and waves were MMF. The tiki face, flowers and leaves were moldeling chocolate mixed with about 1/4 MMF. The flip flops were all modeling chocolate. The cake was vanilla butter cake with mango-pineapple SMBC. The sand was graham crackers and white sugar.

From 1996 Wilton Year Book...this is my baby's 1st birthday cake. The animals and letters are royal icing, the shack part of the ark is chocolate cookie. Water is buttercream and the hull is an upside down football cake....Took ALOT of time and work and the hull started to break...had to insert extra supports.

Marine cake for an old sea lion...what in my country (Peru) we call a veteran sailor.
The cake was for my dad. At the beginning things went wrong, the cake broke in half, the italian meringue cream was toooo soft, it's sooo humid down here!!. But after some fixing and lots of powdered sugar later, it came out pretty cute. Happy birthday dad!!

This is my 2nd attempt at a sunset cake. I got the idea from cakecentral user rcsen. Her cake is amazing! I was still not super happy with it, but I went with it. The top tier is an 8 inch cake and the bottom is a 10 inch cake. It is in all buttercream, except the pier and the sun are fondant. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make a sunset cake using buttercream an easy way, I would love to hear it. I put crushed graham crackers around the bottom for sand when I dropped off the cake. Thanks for looking!

Made this for my father-in-law's 70th birthday, last week. He absolutely loves fishing, so going with a fish style cake was a no brainer! This was my first attempt at sculpting something out of fondant with no template, and I loved it. I found it very relaxing. The waves on the other hand were very tricky and took me much longer than the fish - not quite as relaxing! The water effect and the fish eyes were from piping gel, the hook is made from wire, lightly covered in fondant for effect, and the inspiration for the cake was from many of you guys here on CC, so thank you all so very much. I did the fish as a topper, so dad could have something to keep as a memento, which he was pretty thrilled about!

Made this for a friend's surprise birthday party. He loves to play golf on the beach and so I put a golf course on an island in the ocean. 3 layer, 2 tier yellow butter cake with vanilla icing and plastic golf figurines. This was a huge hit at the party and I felt good about the outcome! Unfortunately the writing on top did not stand up the way I wanted. It sunk down into the grass, but everything else went well.

Mom-to-be's event planner asked for help with a baby shower cake that would have a nautical theme. The phrase, "Ahoy, It's A Boy!" was in the decorations and needed to be incorporated in the cake design. The cake itself is blue buttercream with white buttercream borders and lettering. To get straight/solid shapes, the lifesavers and the backing to the sailboat topper were cut from gum paste and dried hard. Colored fondant was then cut and adhered to them for decoration. The rest of the cake decoration is also colored fondant. The banner was a mix of gum paste and fondant that was dried, so it would hold shape standing up.

6" and 10" rounds, buttercream frosting and MMF decorations. Sun was mix of fondant/gumpaste. Sand was crushed vanilla wafers. Cake was for a customer's sister who loves the beach and was turning 40. The crabs represented the bday girl and husband, 3 sets of flip-flops (2 blue & 1 pink around back of cake) represented her 3 kids, soccer lovers. Customer came up with the "Over the Dune" sentiment. Original design credit goes to CC user ByTheSlice.
