The wave is gumpaste/MMF that dried over a paper towel roll, painted the edge with white Americolor (next time I'll use royal icing). All othe figures are MMF. Sand is graham crackers that I sprinkled with gold sanding sugar - it looked great in person!

This is a sailboat cake I made for a friend's son's first birthday. It didn't turn out how I had imagined, but I did my best! Sails were originally out of gumpaste, but I broke them before I had a chance to attach them to the dowel. The plaque is made of gumpaste.

I was asked to make a birthday cake for a girl who wasn't so girly, yet mom didn't want sucha masculine cake for her. DH and I put our heads together and this is what we came up with.
Cake is covered with buttercream icing, using crushed graham crackers for the "sand". The treasure chest is made of rice cereal treats and covered in MMF. The "jewels" are plastic. One day I will start making these on my own!

I made this for a 9 year old boy's surfing party. The mom wanted the wave to stand up on the cake, so I used a loaf cak turned on it's side. Not my best work, but it was a HUGE hit, and that's what counts.

Inspiration came from Sugarshack's beach cake. It is chocolate cake covered in fondant with choc fudge filling. I made this for a wonderful family that is moving up North for a Sea Change. They are dear friends and I wanted to do something special for their farewell party.

Inspired by Anontia74's sandcastle cake, I created a similar cake for a baby shower that was to be nautical themed and boyish not babyish! I used 2 layers 10" X 2" dp cake for bottom, 1 layer 8" X 3" dp for middle layer and 1 layer 6" x 3" dp top layer. Cake is covered in MMF - which i learned from helpful members in the forum to use cornstarch to help with saggy MMF. worked great! Sailor boy on top of cake is MMF and he is making a sandcastle. Sand is crushed graham crackers. Hand carved the cakes!
