Choo-choo train cake for my 2 year-old. Not exactly what I had in mind when I started, but he liked it. Buttercream and royal icing with fondant-covered boards and plastic animals.

This is a cake for a one year old boy's birthday. It is chocolate and white, iced in buttercream. The hills and train are fondant. I got a lot of great ideas from train cakes on here and added a few of my own, and this is the final result.

Its not a good picture b/c I forgot my camera and sister took with phone camera and forgot to unwrap. Made back in April but only receiving pic now. While it looks good, I personally think candy on cake is kind of not good. Ruins the flavor for me. I'll stick with buttercream.

Background airbrushed, FBCT of train and piped clouds. I really like this cake, unfortunately, the black that I used as the background for the FBCT's started bleeding through the yellow--did not make it thick enough. Oh well.

Okay - I hate this cake but I will post it anyway! LOL! First of all - WHAT was I thinking with those colors? Second of all, half way through the day it started to collapse on me, obviously not supported right. BC with fondant curls. It's fine I guess, but I just die when I look at it and I think of all the great cakes I do for everyone else and this is the POC that my poor son gets LOL! I must have had a lot going on that week, it was 2 years ago, must have been in a coma....

This was a small cake I took with us to the beach for my 4 year olds birthday. We had a big Thomas party on the Saturday before his birthday. But I wanted him to have a cake in his actual birthday.

This is a picture of my son's 3rd birthday cake. Wow...was it absolutely difficult - why? I'm not so sure, probably exhaustion! About 2 a.m. I decided the plastic trees would have to work. Thanks to Klsrtr for the inspiration. I saw that someone else did the cake as well and it's definitely much better than mine! Hopefully, next year, he'll choose something easier!

My son's 2nd birthday, he loved trains and asked for a train cake, but we had already hired a clown, so this was the best of both worlds, a circus train

This was for my mom's coworker's nephew. This is actually the practice cake. Believe it or not I forgot to take a picture of the actual cake (which came out SO MUCH BETTER). I really didn't take the time to make this one perfect, because it was only the practice cake. It was a big hit & my first paying job.

This was made for a little boy who liked both Thomas & Bob and his mom couldn't make her mind up which one to have as the cake. I decided to make Bob as the model and gave him a hammer so it would look like he'd put the sign up.

This is for a One year old that loves trains. The animal pictures came from the decorations for the party, and the pigs are made of fondant.
I think I'm in a slump, cuz I just can't anything to turn out the way I want it!

This was one of my first cakes I got paid for. I did it about a year ago. It was tough to do but so much fun when its for your son's friend's birthday party. The small wheels are oreos that I decorated with buttercream. The large wheels are pepermint patties. The train tracks and bottom icing is fondant. Icing on the train is buttercream. This is still one of my favorites.

Madeira cake with sugarpaste. Used Debbie Brown design. Had some trouble with the wheels because my cake did not have the same height as hers, but otherwise her instructions were great! Used my sugargun for the first time, what a pleasure!

This was for a brother/sister who share the same birthday month. They each had their own smash cake (Elmo and Zoe). The train engine had Elmo on one side and Zoe on the other. On the side of the train car is written "E & P Express" for Ellen & Preston. The train cars are yellow cake w/alternating fillings of chocolate buttercream and cream cheese buttercream. Train wheels are chocolate oreos, gravel under train is crushed graham crackers, connectors between train cars are chocolate graham sticks.
