I made this cake for a four year old boy's birthday party. His favorite book is The Lorax, by Dr. Seuss and wanted a cake with Truffula Trees and Brown Bar-ba-loots. He loved it!

(The cake is covered in fondant with gumpaste accents.)

Customer wanted an iPhone shooting out the top, as that was the real gift the birthday gal was receiving. Made it out of gum paste.

Finally I had a chance to make another topsy-turvy cake. It is the Wedding Orange and Chocolate Mocha Cake (the CC recipes), covered with MMF.

My first topsy turvy was a true learning experience :-) but I think I'm ready for the next one...I molded the poodle, bed, ball and bowl out of fondant...

This was so easy to make. I used the Wilton Topsy Turvy cake pan. This was my first time using that pan. I think it turned out cute, but not too topsy turvy. Better luck next time, I guess. :-)

This is a cake that me and my business partner made for a friends coffee shop window. It is our first attempt at a tiered cake and our first attempt at a topsy turvy! It is a dummy cake with all fondant. The cherub on top is ceramic. Comments are greatly appreciated!!!

One of the last cakes I made for the bridal fair, started out with a theme of Mardi Gras, and ended up with this Blue and silver one.... But it's my favorite of them all!

The icing isn't as smooth as my normal icing, but it worked out. The little girl wanted only purple, so even the white looking icing isn't white, it has purple in it. It amazed the mother at how the top layer was leaning and was so in defiance of gravity... me too actually. The cake is 4 thin layers of the 8" round, a single 2" layer of a 6" pan, and 4 of the mini fill pan. Thanks for looking

My first topsy-turvy cake for my little sister's surprise 40th birthday party. Each tier contained numerous flavors of cake - buttercream icing. Gumpaste accents. I learned a lot with this cake and it took me forever - but it was worth every minute!

I used the idea from another CCer, can't remember their name, but thank you. I used the clients color scheme from a notebook and that she mentioned her daughter was her star grown up. So sweet. Thanks for looking :)

Actually a birthday cake, this is my first attempt at a topsy turvy. (Thanks to BKeith for the awesome tutorial on this site!) Chocolate cake with raspberry and chocolate mousse filling. Iced in Swiss meringue buttercream with fondant and gumpaste decorations. I'm reposting this since I put it in the topsy turvy (wedding cake) category before and thought it belonged here more. Thanks!

Made for my dd 13th "Addams Family" bday party. I have wanted to make one of these for so long! I ended up using the dowel method but would like to try the wedges next time. Bottom 2 layers were fondant covered. Middle layer was hand painted. Top layer was bc with fondant diamonds. So many firsts on this cake but I loved making it. Thanks for all the topsy turvy cakes posted on here!

Another pic of my dd's 13 Addams family bday party. Her only request was a guillotine on her cake (like the baby Addams 1st bday cake). My son made the guillotine for her. I was worried it really would fall over but it stayed in place! Thanks for looking!

I took a class with Becky Rink in which she taught us how to assemble a whimsical cake using styrofoam lifts. I went to town decorating it, had a lot of fun.

This was my first shot at a topsy turvy cake. What a disaster!! First tier fell over and I had to throw it away, the top tier's fondant ripped and fell apart. I did the best I could do to save this cake for my daughter's birthday. Thank goodness I decided to make cupcakes too!!

This was a cake for my daughter's b-day; i was decorating with a flu and a fever, literally in bed, with a mask on and gloves.... didn't come out as neat as I wanted to but pretty ok for a girl with a flu! each cake is 2 cakes- layer of marble and layer of chocolate, cooked buttercream inside and out. Fondant accents.

My first topsy turvy cake! Biggest lesson: PUT IT TOGETHER WHEN YOU GET THERE! The first version had stripes of 3 shades of pink fondant on the bottom tier. This one has ribbon... Royal icing piping for butterflies painted with silver lustre dust. Everything else MMF

This was my first attempt of a topsy turvy cake. I didn't get the effect I really wanted (as almost falling down) but it was fun to do!
As usual done by me and my girls. In fact, the birthday girl to whom the cake was done, did a lot on it (all the hearts, balls and glitter spread were done by her). She turned 6 years old :-)
I didn't want a big cake, so I used pound cake to avoid using dowels and cake boards.
The picture was taken before I took off the paper napkins to held the bow dry in its position

This cake was for a bridal fair. I ran out of time on this one. I had originally planned on GP flowers and draping pearls instead of the balls. Oh well. All the brides dubbed this cake Dippin Dots. Sorry for the bad picture. I'm glad the brides didn't see it at this angle! You can see my styrofoam wedges, oh well. The smudges weren't on it at the bridal fair either. They appeared on the ride home. Once again, oh well.
All fondant.

I had less than a day notice on this one. This was my first topsy turvy. I totally undercharged but I really wanted to do one of these cakes. Ever since people have seen my mini cakes that I did in these colors, everyone wants them on their cake. It was for someone's wife turning 33, which are the numbers on the blue flowers on top. He really wanted a funky flower design and this is what I came up with. White cake with BC icing and fondant accents.

my first one!!!!!!!!! I was pretty happy with how it turned out. The colors/design came from the customer.. she brought me a picture from an online cake company and asked for this design so that was not my doing :) but I love the cake nonetheless! Top tier is yellow cake with chocolate mousse filling and bottom tier is yellow cake with raspberry filling; iced in buttercream with fondant accents

Here's another topsy turvy. They seem to be popular with my clients lately. At least I am getting faster with them. First time making a big bow, any tips would be nice!

(I think I went a little overboard on the wire decorations, whoops! LOL)
This cake design copied her invitations for the Bat Mitzvah.
Buttercream-iced cakes with fondant details & gumpaste/wire decorations and banner. I hand-cut the "E" topper (made two, they were so fragile I was scared I was going to break one!)

My daughter placed 2nd in the AZ Cake Contest today!!!! I am so proud of her! She made this cake all by herself from the actual cake to the decorating. The cake is carrot cake, the frosting is BC, and the candles are RI.

This cake almost didn't happen. The bottom tier started sinking thanks to heavy wet fondant and humidity. So I ran out and got a dummy and redid the bottom. I made the extra cake to replace the servings. I actually like how it came out with the dummy better than the original cake. The new bottom tier was 8 inches tall at it's tallest point, so it really made the cake tall and beautiful. The middle tier isn't perfect either, but it was salvageable.
