My final cake for Course III earlier this year--First tiered cake, first time using RBC, w/ fondant roses (that took two days to make)! Could be smoother and more level, but at least it tasted good!

Birthday cake, lots of roses. All shortening icing, white cake. The thought was prettier in my head than what it actually came out looking like!

Everything that could go wrong with this cake, did. My top tier is way crooked, my BC was streaky, the silver fondant cross for the top of the cake broke, and no time to do a new one, so I had to improvise. Luckily it's a freebie for my nephew, but I almost threw the whole thing in the trash!

Bottom cake is root beer float, middle is white almond sour cream with valentines sprinkles mixed in, top is strawberry. I volunteered to make the cake for our quarterly birthday meal for our troops who live in the dorms..didn't have to pay for anything which was nice. The meal is tonight (Thursday). Would love feedback as I am starting out in the baking world...not brand new, but fairly new to the decorating side. Thanks!!!

This is a cake I did with MMF and buttercream underneath for my SIL's baby shower. I know black and white seems strange for a baby shower...they are her nursery colors. This was my first try at MMF. I liked it very much, although I was not fast enough and it dried out and cracked a bit while putting on black stripes. Learned my lesson for next time!

This is my first tiered cakeand first cake over 9 in. in size. I'm not really happy at all with how it turned out, but I had so many problems with baking it that I ended up being really rushed and tired at the end. Oh well, live and learn I guess.
P.S.- Date on camera is wrong this is from 2/25/2007

I am so new at this! The buttercream under the fondant on the top tier was not thick enough, so there were some bumps. Can anyone tell me how to adhere sugar crystals to fondant/add a "sheen" to fondant?
