Butter cake covered in crusting BC. The face is MMF. This cake gave me some grief. I'm not sure if I liked the butter cake. It was very crumbly and the crusting BC crusted on me very quickly. I should have tried using MMF instead and probably will when/if I do another one. But my customer was pleased, so that's all that matters. But thank you CC members for your inspiration and also for the tutorial I found on how to do it. (Sorry, but I forgot the url and her name.)

Thomas the Tank Engine Face cake. 9" round gluten free Chocolate cake with soy BC. Cake was very soft so barely held up under the fondant, but birthday boy was happy. Design is shamelessly lifted from Merissa's much better original.

I made this for my husband on his 27th birthday. The seaweed is royal icing to give a little more texture. Everything else is buttercream.

Choc mud cake with fondant icing. It was real muggy here in Brisbane and the cake went all tacky but I put it under a light in a cupboard and it came back fine. Bow is one from a newsagency, I wasn't game enough to make a real one thank goodness, or it would have melted.

I made this for my son's 6th birthday. WASC with chocolate cream cheese icing. The tank is a devils food cake covered with satin ice. Chocolate rocks and plastic army guys. The sign is 'written' in holes to make it look like it was done with the guns.

Thomas the Tank Engine cake, client asked for a Number one it was my idea to make it look like the face of Thomas because I thought that the shape would really work. Later she asked if I could add a small track and train, I ended up getting the toy train for $2 I thought that way they can keep it as a momento. The plan was to sprinkle a grass like feature around the tracks, it didn't quite come out like I expected, I hope I didn't ruin it.

I carved this cake from the Wilton 3D Cruiser novelty pan. The gun is a straw covered in b/c. The rest of the icing is all b/c. This was for my son. I only had 45 minutes to throw this cake together (as you can tell). All critiques are welcome.

So, I was finally asked to do one of these... I knew it was inevitable. :) The Landscape is a carved 11x15 french vanilla/milk chocolate swirl cake with marshmallow-flavored buttercream, covered in airbrushed fondant, with airbrushed RKT bushes and trees. Thomas and the carts are RKT covered in fondant. Tanks (hee hee) for looking!

I couldn't find the 3D train pan so had to use rice krispie treats to build the train. The person who ordered it actually wanted it made with the star tip, wasn't too happy with the end result.

the turet is actually a mini telescope, the tires are oreos dipped in thinned black icing and the treads are from Matts tonka tank, we bored for the day, washed it off and put it back on his tank. the dirt around the tank is of course crushed oreos.

This is a six and an eight inch cake iced in buttercream with fondant accents. The train on top is made from MMF. I really wanted to put some yellow on the bottom cake but I ran out of time. Thanks for looking.

Here is a close-up of the Thomas the Tank figure on my cake. I had a lot of problems with him and am not completely satisfied with how he turned out. The blue fondant kept getting darker the more I worked with it so Thomas was darker than I wanted. I guess as long as you can tell it is Thomas it isn't to bad. I guess I need more practice.

My husband and I made this cake for our nephew's third birthday. Everything was completely edible (face was made from gumpaste). I think we ended up with a total of 14 cakes.

I made this cake for my little grandsons birthday, he was born on Valentine's Day. He wants to start collecting Thomas Tank Train stuff now so his birthday was the start of a new toy collection. Fun!! :) He loved the cake and wanted his piece of cake to be Thomas's face! LOL....Both cakes are marble cake with all buttercream filling and frosting. Thomas cake was made from the Wilton Choo Choo Train pan.

I made this for my sons 3rd birthday. He wanted Thomas with his friends. This is what I came up with. The cake is choc/orange slab cake cut to shape of Tidmouth sheds (well sort of) covered with fondant. Trains are plastic.

This was for a friends sons 1st birthday - what a disaster!!! It was a kit, the face and top part were plastic. I carved the cake and then followed instuctions only to find when I added the kit part of cake my measurements went wrong somewhere along the line as things did not mach up. After some major paniking I took off the icing patched the cake up and re-iced. Not the best looking cake - but they were happy.
