I made this cake for my friend's parents who were celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary with a big Luau. It is a 14", 12", and 6" cakes. The tiki hut is made of cupcakes. Most decorations are made of gum paste, and the rest with fondant, including the hibiscus flower.

This was to be a "tropical" themed cake for a 14 year old girl and that was all the direction I was given. I just had no clue what to do. Our budget was super tight on this cake, so it was also the first cake I ever had to do with a butter cream finish. I decided to keep it simple and just use bright colors. I'm still not very comfortable with leaving my butter cream "out there" naked for the whole world to see! I much prefer to hide it under the safe blanket of fondant!

This cake is covered in fondant, and then air brushed. My favorite part is the tiny little foot prints in the sand. The male swimmer and the Female sun bather are made of Modeling chocolate, the tooth pic was used to prop the arm of the man while it dried but was removed before presenting the cake. the waves were achieved by using butter cream frosting, and then a blue tinted gel was added to get a wet look. The palm trees were made of Fondant, gum paste, and royal frosting 2 days prior to assembling the cake. The towels were made from fondant.

Made this for a customer who wanted barbie made out of fondant. I am not happy with her at all, but I did tell her that it's tough to create something that has a distinctive look and I am not that good. She didn't want to use a real barbie either, so this is what she got. Wave made from RKT covered in fondant and RI for white foam. TFL

We made this surfboard cake for a going away party. This cake was 5' long. It weighed a ton! I had to piece the fondant in three large batches. It ended up weighing a TON. We had a lot of fun building it. We even used a tie dye cake that we got off of CC. Here is the link... Thanks floridachic
