Simple super hero inspired cake for five-year-old boy's birthday. Used Fondx on 6" and 9" tiers. Trying to keep it easy and simple these days for low-pressure cakes, I didn't even put a border around the tiers and didn't worry too much about the size or shape of the windows. Clearly!

Mario is a vanilla cake with buttercreme icing, rice krispie treats and fondant.

His body, legs and feet are cake. His arms and head are rice krispie treats. The only thing that is not edible is the dowel in each leg, the one running up the middle of his body, and the thin metal supports in each arm.

This was used as a birthday cake for a little boy.

Chocolate Cake with dark chocolate ganache, Rice Bubble Treats and fondant.

My husband saw the cake in it's Rice Bubble Treat and ganache faze and asked if there was any cake 'in there'... As such I would like to point out that there is 1 x 8", 1 x 7" and 2 x 6" chocolate cakes in there!

The arms, legs, jaw and 'brain' are Rice Bubble Treats, as stated all is coated in ganache and then fondant applied. There is one central dowel and a few cocktail sticks holding in the horns on the head and the back.

All the classic icons from Super Mario. Everything is edible; the 4 tunnels are cakes and all decor is sugar.

Inside: dark chocolate gone wild! the birthday boy wanted 'funfetti' style. With vanilla Swiss meringue style butter cream and dark chocolate ganache.

This cake was coated using a more Australian style 9rather than American)-- ganache coating immediately beneath the fondant. I'm sold on this style for precision in shaping and ease of fondant application. Thanks to all the Aussie contributors here for tutorials and methods!
