Going away cake for a close friend from South Africa who's lived in the US for 15 years and is taking a year to go back to SA. Cappuccino chip cake with mocha buttercream. (which got very droopy and melty during transport, but no one seemed to care - they loved it).
Inspired by countless, perfect suitcase cakes here on CC.
All Fondant accents, flags and luggage tag were drawn on fondant with edible markers. Only non-edible item is the ribbon holding the tag.

I wish I could have taken a better picture of this cake, but I was in a hurry to get to the party. This was for my daughter who is heading off to college. It's a first purse, shoe, and suitcase cake for me, so please, let me know what you think.
It is covered in MMF. The shoe is made of gumpaste and from a template I got on this site. I had to hand mold the heel. Both the purse and shoe have swarovski crystals on them. Thanks for looking!!

This is the most unique request I have received to date. This was for a Birthday/Going away party. She is a huge fan of ketchup, and loves to dip her veggies in it. He came up with a small sketch and I went with it. Because he requested a sheet cake and it was a going away party, I thought this would be a great time to experiment with a suitcase. I used rice crispy squares for the ketchup bottle, salt shaker, broccoli and cauliflower. The cake is vanilla with strawberry butter cream, covered in chocolate fondant. He was very happy with our joint collaboration, and so was I.

My friends family invites this girl from Germany to stay with them for 6 weeks practically every summer and will be heading off to college in the fall, so they wanted to do a special farewell cake for her.
So I thought that a globe, made completely of cake, with her "On Top of The World" would be great. You can't actually tell, but the airplane is floating above the globe on a thin wire and really looked like it was flying.
The banner across the equator says "Never too far away from our hearts" and has 5 keys with the initials of each member of the family to represent the "Key to their heart".
The cake was a hit and it was great to see Kathi so happy on her last day in town!
Have a great first year at University Kathi! Hopefully we'll see you soon! Thanks for looking.

Chocolate cake with raspberry filling and raspberry bc icing. This is my first suitcase cake. The lady I made it for wanted bc instead of fondant. I think I would have done a better job in fondant. TFL
