I was asked to make a Gruffalo cake. The Gruffalo is from a children's story book. I was really please with the way these cake toppers turned out (made from gumpaste). I hope you like them and hope the birthday girl likes them. Thanks for looking.

I loved this cake because it really tells a story, a busy story, but a story nun the less. I completely stole the idea from an episode of Cake Boss....the one where the guys dropped the cake down the stairs. My customer gave me a list of interests of her 16 year old daughter. She loves the Steelers, her cell phone, her flat iron, the beach, shopping, her iPod, she plays softball and hopes to attend Norte Dame. The entire family was there when I delivered it....the dad even pulled out the video camera.....needless to say they loved it! The top tier is chocolate, middle is butter pecan and the bottom is marble. The entire cake is covered in buttercream then MMF. Everything this is edible except for the lollipop sticks.

Here's another version of a Toy Story cake I've done before. This time I decided to also make a little rug and toy box. Unfortunately I didn't think of doing the toy box in advance, and it the fondant only had a couple of hours to harden--hence the drooping lid. But I still think it is way cute! The figurines were purchased in a set at the Disney Store. The bed was a 10in square that I cut in half and stacked. Everything is fondant.

I made this cake for a little girl turning 2 years, whom apparently adores The Gruaffalo, which is a story book character. I think I have succeeded in still making the cake look girly. Have used lustre dust on the butterflies, flowers and plaque. Hope she loves it!

Made for a 3 year old who loves Woody from Toy Story and just came back from her first trip to Disney the day before her party. Not quite what I had in mind, but she loved it! Chocolate cake filled and iced in BC. Woody's face, #3 and castle door are chocolate. Woody's badge, belt buckle, and rope are MMF, castle towers are pink ice cream cones, the figures are all toys. Thanks for lookin!.

A husband ordered this kake for his wife's 50th birthday. He wanted to depict the different stages of her life (student, wife, doctor, mother). So I thought a book would be a good idea portraying the different chapters of her life. :-)
Two 12" x 18" sheets carved, covered in fondant and airbrushed. The top pages are edible images. :-)

Everything is fondant except the figures which are store bought. Had a super hard time covering the middle tier with the blue fondant for some reason but overall, happy with how this turned out.

The bed is yellow cake with raspberry creme filling, covered in my buttercreme and homemade fondant. The bedposts and the child's name are gumpaste, and the pillow is a piece of cake covered in fondant.
The wood flooring, why, that's Pergo, isn't it? No, actually it's just more fondant. I created the woodgrain effect using brown food coloring mixed with vanilla extract, and I painted it on.
This cake was SO much fun to make!! It was my first time attempting a woodgrain. I made planks out of the fondant and fitted it together just like when we put in our flooring. :) This cake was inspired by another one I found on this site; I'll try to find it and give credit.

My second cake decorating experience as a Wilton course 1 student. This cake was commissioned for a little boys birthday party. Image of the Toy Story alien came from a coloring book page and the cake was fully decorated with buttercream. The star was filled in with Wilton yellow sugar sparkles.

I made this with the Wilton 1977 Superman/Batman Pan. I actually baked two of them, so that I could have a 2-layer cake.

One of my first tries at fondant. After the picture was taken I added clouds around the bottom to hid my poor trimming skills, lol.
