My dad's birthday is July 4, but we had a small party (like, 5 of us LOL) today - I think he was pretty floored. Everything is done in MMF, I had to run the stars straight up on the top tier because I had major problems with it cracking. I airbrushed some of the stars with a mix of lustre dust and vodka (although not sure I recommend it as it clogs a little). The large MMF stars that said Happy Birthday Dad, well, one busted on the way to the house so I skipped them - shows detail better though. :)

My first entirely fondant covered cake. Dark chocolate cake with raspberry and marzipan filling, painted marshmallow fondant. Covering the whole cake with fondant was more difficult than I thought! I am not happy with the way it turned out (many cracks), but a few strategically placed stars helped.

What a pain in the keister this cake was. I used the whimsical bakehouse house buttercream, which waaaay too soft. It also doesn't crust, and I just couldn't get the icing smooth for anything. My star cornelli and flowers are off kilter. It's a white cake torted into 4 layers with raspberry filling, every other layer is white or blue. The party I'm making it for has been cancelled, so I guess DH gets to bring it to work. I need a new icing recipe!

Sugar cookies with buttercream frosting. I prefer royal for cookies, but didn't have meringue powder. They still turned out ok, but not as polished looking.

The idea for this cake came from Michelle at Cake Strings. (thank you!) The original picture has the star as a 2-layer with the full ball, but my customer didn't need that much cake, so I cut it in half. All is buttercream with the exception of MMF daisies and the name.

12x18 yellow stacked with Shooting Star cake. Did this for a church's Family and Friends Day celebration. Added red and blue sprinkles on top of cake with curly circles around the sides and back. Been along time since I've done this many stars.lol

Darth Vador ~ Yellow cake, black Buttercream Icing. Spread corn syrup on eyes and nose area to make it shiny.
Earth ~ 2 bundt cakes (1 yellow, 1 chocolate) with flat ends together to form a ball. All Buttercream Icing. Used a saucer plate on bottom to keep it from rolling. Used a 2-cup cylinder style measuring cup in the center holes of bundt cakes to keep them from sliding. Manipulated the icing as best as I could to achieve the smooth round shape. It survived an hour long trip to the party ~ Whew!!!

Chocolate cake with buttercream icing. I got this in one of the Wilton yearbooks. It was fun to make, eventhough the red didn't turn out as red as I wanted. I didn't have the forms for the USA and am not steady enough to try to freehand it.

Two Layer Chocolate with Choc BC and Crushed Andes Mints in between the layers. BC and Fonfant Covered. I found this cake in the back of a Wilton yearbook and thought it would be great for my Son who's Navy. He was home on leave over the 4th of July. Pray for our Soldiers, Silors, Flyboys, etc....

Didn't quite turn out how I wanted. I tried to create an old world effect on the sheet cake but I think I went overboard with the antiquing! Well, I have never made a WHOLE sheet cake before. The thing was huge!!! Yikesabee! Covered in fondant with luster dust galore! LOL

This is my 8 year old daughters 3 decorating job - done all by herself. She even helped do the baking. We took these to a party along side of my Uncle Sam Slide cake - and she got more complements than I did (and rightly so!). The kids gobbled up her cupcakes faster than any other dessert. BC icing - mmf accents all hand painted. She did an awsome job...we are so proud of her.

A lot of people at the party didn't realize the cake is supposed to look like it's falling over (it was for a 30th birthday party). Although I like how it turned out in the end...it is not at all what I envisioned. The frosting would not cooperate in the humidity. Bottom layer (10") is yellow cake with strawberry filling, middle layer (8") is chocolate cake with oreo cream filling, top layer (6") is carrot cake with cream cheese frosting filling. Frosted in chocolate bc w/ fondant luster dusted stars

This cake was made for my neices 3rd birthday! She is allergic to dairy and a lot of other things, so this is a totally organic cake made just for her. It was my first time making a cake like this and it was odd to me how it didn't "rise" the way that a "normal" cake does. She really wanted to have a Dora cake and she loves the stars on the show!

This is a Darth Vader I made for a friend who works for Starbucks(as an exec)...hence the white, green and black color scheme. I've made cakes using this cakepan before and have been using different color schemes cause Black and Grey get boring.

Does anyone have any recommendations for good food dye? I used gel, some brand I dont remember, but after everyone had eaten they all had black and green tongues and fingers. I dont want that happening again! Thanks!
