My 3 yr olds b-day he wanted Buzz Lightyear, I made a 9X13 base space cake I placed a 1/2 ball for the moon and carved Buzz's ship 42. I made 3 LGM's out of fondant. All icing is BC, the wings are Gumpaste. The Fire is nerd rope. The Kids loved it. I made the moon for Friday July 20th - 40th anniversary of walk on moon! Thanks to all the inspiration from my fellow CC's when my son saw a Buzz lightyear toy on a ship, he said he wanted Buzz on 42, so I went tried it and kind of copied a old design of mine.

This was soooo fun to make. My oldest helped design and decorate this cake. The bottom is choc. with choc. mousse filling, the middle is strawberry w/ cheesecake filling, and "Mars" is the funfetti cake colored green with the choc mousse filling (his choice). The cake is covered in CBC and dusted w/ luster dust. The planets, stars, aliens, comets, and rockets are made from gumpaste and fondant. The spaceship on top is a rice krispie treat covered in fondant. Thanks for looking!!

This cake was inspired by Debbie Brown's Cartoon Cakes and was created for my son's 11th birthday (who loves both astronomy and dinosaurs). The cake itself is chocolate/chocolate chip with chocolate buttercream in between the layers. The party was held at the Challenger Learning Center with a simulated "Voyage to Mars" - so we had to have a cake to match!

created a solar system cake. tried to get the 'color' and approximate size as close as possible. Could not do it to scale really or the smaller planets would have only been dots!

Shape is cut from a sheet cake. Base for side and center "engines" are cut from the unused cake pieces. "Engines" are iced ice cream cones. "Flames" from inside and below center engine are iced bits of cake. "Flames" from side engines are cut up tissue paper (non-edible obviously). Whole cake is allergen free - no nuts, dairy, eggs or gluten. Thanks to Cherrybrook mix! When I used to make eggless cakes w/ my own ingredient substitutions I always had trouble w/ consistency and maintaing shape.

This cake was for my 2 year old's birthday. He is obsessed with Buzz Lightyear so after having "caker's block" for quite sometime I finally decided to model a cake after his Buzz rocket ship/ spaceship toy. He just loved it ! I even shimmied a styrofoam wedge under the rocket so it would look like it's taking off. What a "blast!"

carved hard and shoulders, covered in fondant. Snout was made of GP ahead of time and dried. All was airbrushed to be really black. Head came off during delivery, so it was slightly crooked since we have SO many twisty roads around here. If you do this, bolt the head plate to the board!!

This is my first 3D cake. Made this cake for my brother who works at NASA. Since turning 40, he's done his best to avoid any type of birthday celebration. I did my best to create a cake he couldn't pass up. The shuttle is made out of rice krispy treats and covered in MMF.

This is devils food chocolate with choclate mousse. I did a good chocolate buttercream crumb coat and it's covered in fondx. DE-LISH! This space shuttle has fondx and choc. fondant accent decor. I used a 1/4 sheet pan for this cake. I cut it in half length wise and stacked it. Once it was stacked I carved it a bit. For the nose of the shuttle I used rice crispie treats.

For my son's 3rd birthday! The rocketship is cut from a 10 in round with a strip from the middle cut out, the wings are a 6 in round cut into a moon shape, then cut in half. The base of the ship is made from the cut pieces. The moon is a rice krispies ball made for my hubby, along with cupcakes in Reynolds Fun Shapes cups! Enjoy!

I don't know who to credit with originally making this cake, as I was given a picture by the customer and asked to make it! I used the Wilton football/rugby ball tin and just cut a bit off of one end. It was flatter than I had envisaged, so I made a shallow-ish rectangular cake, put the shaped one on top and cut around, to give the cake more height! Vanilla high density sponge with jam and buttercream, covered with sugarpaste. Edible astronaught made from modelling paste.

Just finished making this space cake for my child's 6 th birthday party. I still think I'd put too many details on the cake, but he loved it, so I am pleased about that. The Ideas for the satellite dishes came from 'The all colour Cake Decorating Course' book by Elaine MacGregor. I used Australia cookie cutter - wished I had the cookie cutters for the rest of the world!

Did this for my sons pack meeting. He's in boy scouts and the theme was exploring the universe or something like that. Golden butter cake w/ spiced cream cheese buttercream. The rocket, fire and words were all fondant. I made cupcakes into all of the planets to place around the cake.

My mom and I teamed up on this cake for my birthday. I LOVE Star Trek: TNG. I cut the Enterprise out of gray Wilton fondant and painted it using thinned icing coloring. I cut the words Star Trek out of blue fondant and my mom wrote the words "The Next Generation" because I wanted it done neatly and I couldn't write very neatly with icing back then. =) The cake is covered in buttercream and sprayed with black Wilton color mist.

My great nephew wanted a Buzz cake so here is my effort, thanks to all CC cakes I got inspiration from. I feel like I cheated by using a Buzz figure, but after the attempt at the spaceship it just had to be... bottom is 1/2 sheet Chocolate Almond Sour Cream Wedding Cake recipe with buttecream icing, spaceship is the WASC covered in fondant (haven't done the fondant since the Wilton class as you can tell) details are fondant. Thanks for looking!
