This was my only entry this year in the Queen City Cake and Sugar Art Show held this past week-end at the Cincinnati Home & Garden Show. I brought it all the way from Florida! I was so glad that it arrived in one piece and was very happy to win first place ribbon for the fashion category. All fondant covered, air-brushed design on the purple cake, brush embroidery on the blue cake. All shoes and fantasy flowers are gumpaste and hand formed. Fondant covered board. TFL!

This was for a sweet 16. They had a snowflake theme with blue and white as their colors. I love the way it came out. I had trouble with the middle tier but coved it up with the diamonds... thank goodness. I had the label say Happy Sweet 16 Katelyn and I used her b-day as the barcode. They said they cried when they saw the cake and it was the hit of the party. I am doing the same cake (only the top 2 layers) next week in new colors. If anyone has an opinion of the colors feel free to share. It is for a bridal shower and she wants it colorful. Thanks for looking.

This cake was a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream icing. I saw a tutorial from pink cake box on how to make a cute shoebox. I took a lot of their ideas and made this lovely cake. I had some serious issues with the high heel, but overall I really think it came out well. CSM

A Manolo Blahnik shoe and shoe box for my girlfriends 30th birthday sex and the city party. Was my first attempt at a shoe so it was a bit of a challenge. Definitely learnt what not to do next time! The cake was a lemon and limoncello cake with white chocolate ganache filling.

This is a cake I made for a friend who was celebrating her birthday and had recently passed her RN exams. The cake was made of 2 layers butter pecan to one layer chocolate cake and the frosting/filling was coffee cream cheese frosting. The shoe was made from fondant mixed with tylose so that it dried quickly and the shoe box was covered in Chocopan chocolate flavored fondant.

This was a last minute design change...customer had a pic of the cat in a shoebox and I didn't have time to make any last minute box panels...but she did happen to have a brand new, clean shoe box! So that worked! The only thing I don't like is the tape on the side because since the real cat was fluffy and a tight fit in the box, I had to cut the sides of the box and slide the cake in to give it the tight fit. I also made a little platform in the box to make the cat sit up a bit higher. Somehow I think the cake looks a little better in person... anyway hope she likes it! Its all red velvet cake inside, even the head.

This was my first time making a shoe and shoe box. Believe it or not the shoe was the easiest part of this whole cake. I struggled to the point of sheer frustration with the shoe box & lid. I am still not happy with it, but had to deliver it to the customer so didn't have any more time to mess with it. I had a lot of fun doing this one and can't wait to try it again ... just hope it goes a little bit smoother. Thank you for everyone on CC who inspired the design for this cake!!Hope you like it!

This is a topsy-turvy cake I made for a bridal shower. The client has rainbow colors involved in her wedding scheme, so I couldn't resist adding lots of color to this cake. I used a combination of fondant, modeling chocolate, gum paste, cake, and cereal treats. Some of the client's favorite things are included in the decorations such as the Coach Scribble mini, the Mets tickets, a Mary Poppins Showbill, and an iPod with her favorite band on the screen.

I made this cake for my friend's baby shower. She's obsessed with shoes - specifically high heels. The shoe boxes/presents were cakes covered with fondant. Gumpaste and fondant high heel and baby shoes. The high heel shoe was actually made to scale. My first time making shoes of any type. I don't think I'll be in a hurry to make another high heel shoe. Also, first time making a cake like this in Switzerland. I had to use a canvas instead of a cake board. :)

This is by far the coolest cake I've done. First I covered the box (the actual cake) with fondant (which actually wrinkled over night sadly), then I covered an actual top of a shoe box with fondant and set it aside. Next I took thin peices of gumpaste and let them dry, then I added them for tissue paper. I set the lid on top of that. Then I took thick fondant and made the blanket at the base of my cake. Next I added the tag.
The shoe was the last thing I put on and it took me about a week total to make it. I used pink cake box's youtube tutorial.
This cake was for my friend Malinda Rose who was turning 15 years old.
Hope you enjoy!

I took this order (at a very low price) because of the challenge the shoe presented, and i am proud of how it came out. A guy ordered it for his fiancée for their engagement party. She is a shoe buyer for Lord & Taylor and she likes the funky designs of Betsey Johnson. I started the shoe a week before its due date in order to let the base and the heel really really dry. I added photos of the shoe process so you can see how the stages o the shoe where broken up. I actually took on of my very old and cheap ($7) shoes and ripped them apart. Then sterilized best i could and used it to create my shoe template. I used the sole of the shoe as the resting place to dry the base (sole) of the shoe. This worked better than cutting out a support structure out of paper etc... In the future, i will be visiting a discount shoe store to find a super marked down shoe in a size 6 or 7. I used my shoe, which is a size 9, and that just used up soooo much more material, i feel its almost wasteful.
The cake itself is white cake with espresso butter cream filling. The white cake recipe was from here on CC. I'm not sure if i like it. The Lord and Taylor gift card is gumpaste with food coloring painting. The logo on top of the shoe box was also made from a template i cut out. I find doing this is soo much easier than free handing it. I freehanded the logo on the inside of the shoe only since i couldn't make one so small. TFL.

I stole this idea from LetsDoCake1 . Didnt come near their perfection. But I tried. DOes anyone know how to get good black fondant. The satin ice one always cracks on me and painting it is always streaky.
