My son wanted a "sea monster" cake. He also requested the great white and killer whale. My favorite is the great white. I made the sea monster using candy clay made from green candy melts. This was my time using the clay. Although I like the monster, the clay wasn't stiff enough to have his head stay up. Any tips on working with candy clay would be appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Seems to be a revived interest in Mermaid. Vanilla sponge with bc and fondant. Fish, shells, starfish and sea horse all coloured chocolate. Must say I love doing these cakes because your icing needs to be less than perfect for the rocks and the sea! Such a saving on time and very liberating!!!

A 'Nemo' themed cake for a little girl who turned 4. There was a bit of artistic license involved here as she also wanted a mermaid ... so I threw in a few extra sea creatures too! Choc cake with fondant. Modelling paste creatures. The cake was based on the wonderful Debbie Brown's 'mermaid cake', and I had a big dose of inspiration for the sign, from stlalohagal's nemo cake here on CC! Many thanks!!

My nephew turned 3 last weekend, so I decided to bake him a nemo cake decorated with all the toy stuff so that he could play with them later. The 3 was a carved chiffon cake and the bottom is a sponge cake. Once the candles were blown, the fish quickly disappear one by one. We had great fun.

This was my daughter's class cake for a cake auction at her school. I had each kid in her class cut and pick a sea animal out of fondant, paint it, then go back and draw faces and accents on them. We also made the seashells out of fondant using molds then painted those as well. We won first place and the cake sold for $320. The kids were so proud!!!!! It was a pretty proud moment for me as well. Thanks to CC!!!

I made this to display in my cousins toy and ice cream store. All the decorations are inspired by the decorations in the store. I'm hoping to get some buisness having it on display there.

I made this for a little girl's birthday... she loves dolphins. I decorated the cake to look like an ocean theme. The dolphins were hand molded out of fondant, inserted lollipop sticks and set to dry. Once dry, then I coated each with luster dust so they'd sparkle. Cake sides were decorated with seaweed, fish and crabs. The cake border was crushed graham cracker crumbs for the ocean bottom and candy shells were molded and brushed with luster dust.

This is a cake I did for one of my daycare children. The characters are toys I bought. The icing is BC, the coral and seashells are candy melts, and the seaweed and other things are airheads and fruit chews (they don't like the taste of gumpaste so I improvised). The sand is crushed graham crackers.

2-layer 9x12. One is devil's food, the other is amaretto butter. Almond pudding filling. All BC. Flip-flops are MMF, sand is graham crackers, seas shells are candy melts. My DH said, "Well now you know how to carve a coffin at halloween." Trying to get it to look right when it was so tall was very hard. overall though I am pleased.
