I was asked to make a birthday cake for a girl who wasn't so girly, yet mom didn't want sucha masculine cake for her. DH and I put our heads together and this is what we came up with.
Cake is covered with buttercream icing, using crushed graham crackers for the "sand". The treasure chest is made of rice cereal treats and covered in MMF. The "jewels" are plastic. One day I will start making these on my own!

Everything is edible with the exception of the dowels in the palm trees and cake for support. I used Michelle's WONDERFUL recipe for my fondant. The top layer is carrot cake with homemade cream cheese frosting and the bottom layer is devil's food with a cherry filling and homemade cream cheese frosting as well.
This is my first try at something like this and my second try at fondant. It was a big hit at the party.
The inspiration came from other Cake Central users. Thanks for looking!!!

Worked for HOURS on this cake, but it was fun and customer loved it. My favorite items were the french fries in ketchup and the flip flops (on the side). Lots of other details not visible in the pic- 3D cheeseburger, 3d poptops, compass, a 5'oclock somewhere clock, sand, rocks, shark fins all around the top of the bottom tier (ahem...swimming to the left AND to the right). Palm trees/leaves on wires and inserted into straws. (9" over a 12" cake). TFL!!

<GASP> I know- a cake decorated in pan. One of my very first that got decorated with more than just frosting & sprinkles. Graham crackers cut into a pail & shovel shape were then frosted. The shovel got red sugar sprinkles. Pez candy made the pail handle. Crushed vanilla wafer cookies made the sand.

These were inspired by BJ. The birthday girl's actual birthday is in the winter - but she really wanted to have a pool party so she waited for 6 months (hence the "10 1/2"). And, of course, it POURED rain.... :( Sand is graham cracker crumbs. Chocolate shells are brushed with luster dust.

Made these cakes for a couple having an island themed reception. Six different flavors - chocolate fudge, orange, lemon, strawberry, white and marble, all iced in buttercream. Bar, chairs, stools, shells and coolers made from white chocolate. Beach blanket and penguin made from chocolate clay.I received feedback from the bride and she was delighted with her cakes - said I did them exactly as she wanted them!! :) Thanks for looking.

this is my version of a cake that's been copied a lot. The bride requested the design, and I can't off the top of my head remember the original designer. But, I think I did a decent take on it, and am happy with the results. TFL!
