This cake was done for a 15 yr old girl who was having a pool party.
I got the idea from a magazine cover. I was a little disappointed, but
the birthday girl liked it.

This is the "topper" for the beach themed wedding cake I did. The bride wanted a formal monogram topper for this cake in the beginning. Her mother and I were able to convince her that is "topper" would be more fitting for this cake. The sand is made of brown sugar.

This was my first tiered (or more than 1 layer) attempt and 2nd cake working w/ fondant, I handmade the mmf for this cake and much tastier but hard work. I made this for my husband for fathers day. He is an avid surfer and we just moved 500 miles from San Diego (where we had lived for 10 years) He loved it. I learned ALOT from this cake and used way too much crisco in rolling out the fondant. The sun was a rice crispy treat and the surfboards were fondant (will use gumpaste as fondant did not dry out)

Each set of flops were carved from a 9 x 13. Half is covered in mmf, the other is covered in the fondant rec. from Toba Garrett. That was the first time I tried that rec. and I really liked it. Very different from mmf - very easy to cover and worked great in the extruder to make ropes.

Made these cupcakes for a friend's birthday. He loves German Chocolate, but we were doing a beach theme, so I couldn't resist doing the beachy ones I had seen in the "Baker's Field Guide to Cupcakes" too. I hate we didn't get a good close-up picture, but they are covered in blue buttercream with graham cracker crumbs for sand and topped with an umbrella pick.

I made this for my niece and nephew's shared b-day party. It was my first attempt with gum paste and my first time doing a really decorative cake.

Each cut from a 9X13 one white one chocolate. BC icing with MMF accents. For two sisters each flip flop had there name and age on the back. My favorite pair I have done yet. They were having a pool party and I even found ribbon to match that said pool party!

Thanks to several of you for your inspiration for this cake. The
castle is an orange pineapple cake covered with buttercream and vanilla wafers. The ball and bucket are rice kripies covered in fodant. Doing this cake brought back fond memories of childhood days at Florida's beaches.

Procrastination is an ugly thing, threw it together in about 3-4 hours. Everyone loved it anyways--even lopsided, bulging, and falling apart. Don't they always? P.S. This was the "good" side. :) Strawberry cake (doctored mix from here), Cheesecake filling. Nilla Wafer, Graham Cracker, and brown sugar sand. MMF and Buttercream. Shells are molded white chocolate merckens. Made for the "Summer Birthdays" party our family throws every year.

I wanted to make the coral from chocolate but the humidity was too high and everytime I tried to take them off the waxed paper they would break. . Made this cake for a bridal shower. Cake is French Vanilla with chocolate BC and covered in fondant. I hope you enjoy looking

This was a cake for my sister in laws wedding, it was my first mad hatter cake. The pail is also made out of cake. I think it turned out pretty good, especially considering it had a 3hr drive to the reception location!

Cake is a combination of several ideas from cakes on CC. 10" and 8" red velvet iced in buttercream. Tiki hut is two cupcakes stacked, iced in royal and covered with pretzel sticks. Pretzel rod palm trees with fondant leaves. Torches are candles wrapped in fondant (didn't really like the way these turned out). Fondant tiki mask, shark fin, snake and coconuts. Pirouette cookies around island. Graham cracker crumbs for sand and Oreo crumbs for path. A lot of work but fun and very rewarding!

Client asked for smaller version of the wedding cake I did like this for a friend's bridal shower. I hope she's ok with it. I see all kinds of problems, but DH is standing over me with a stick, telling me to quit obsessing and go to bed! Feel free to critique, I can take it.
