This is the cake I was so frustrated about! In the end it turned out okay and actually looks pretty good in the picture but so many things about it frustrated me! Buttercream cracked terribly on tops of cakes (thank goodness for flowers!) And the pearl and smocking took much longer than I anticipated! So glad this one is over. This was fashioned somewhat after a design by Earlene Moore.

These cakes were made for the AKA's annual Twenty Pearls Scholarship Pagent. They request two full sheets one chocolate and one vanilla. I decorated them both exactly alike. The picture looks like a mirrored image but it is actually two cakes. I received lots of compliments on the flavor and decorations and even got a couple of orders from the event.

Decorated with buttercream, scroll work on sides and fondant pearls for borders. Travelled 2 1/2 hours with this cake for a friends wedding and put 13 dozen real roses on it. Cut, mirrored initials on top layer. My husband had to place the top layer, because it was to tall for me to reach!

Studied and experimented to be sure this turned out right. Not quite a cookie or a cake. Made for my mother-in-law's 50th birthday to say she is a pearl after 50 years. Tortilla cut into a scallop shape and baked into a bowl, covered in melted white chocolate, then brushed on pearl dust. Added a dark chocolate edge (lots of pics of oysters had it where the top shell broke off). Pearl is made of white chocolate plastic with pearl dust too. Starfish: white/dark chocolate combo and white choc/peanut butter.

of _ChristyB_ cake. My client visited CC because she didn't really know what design she wanted for her birthday. She came across this cake , loved it, and asked if I could change the color scheme from pink to purple.

My ex sister-in-law's 32nd birthday cake (it was her daughter's idea to change her age - she loved it). I made the shell by dipping a balloon into candy melts and freezing it. The pearl was made of oreo cookie crumbs dipped into candy melts and formed into a ball...more dipping until the correct size then brushed with lustre dust. The sand is brown sugar.

Well, just about everything that could go wrong, went wrong with this one. It was supposed to be 4 tiers, but my oven broke and I didn't get to make the bottom tier (was going to be 12"). Good thing it was mostly just for practice and to play with my new impression mat and button molds from NewCake. So, this is a 10, 8, and 6", covered with MMF. The pearls and buttons are both MMF painted with super pearl luster dust. Roses are MMF too.

MMF Three Layer Golden Anniversary Cake with Edible Pearls and Edible Gold Dust MMF Lace. This is my FLOP cake. The heat was an unbearable 110 degrees that day and the building had NO A/C. Bummer! But, I put this cake in my album to remind me that things can always be worse. This is pretty darn bad! Thank goodness we keep on decorating, right?

White cake w/ BC frosting. Purse, roses and pearls made from fondant. For a 2 year olds bday. She loves purses! The icing isn't as smooth as I would have liked. Why do I keep getting the cake showing through the frosting? I put it on extra-thick last night! Anyway, hopefully she and her family will enjoy the cake.

I was a little nervous about this request because she specifically wanted roses. Buttercream roses are my worst. So I thought I would try gumpaste roses instead.

This is my first tiered/wedding cake I've done. It was a gift to my brother and sister in law. I had no idea the time (and oven space) to bake an 18", 14" 10" and 6' into layered cakes. Yet, they were very appreciative, so that makes it all worth it. The picture I went from was iced with fondant, yet my brother wanted buttercream. I smoothed the edges to make it look rounded. A viva paper towel was a great help. The ribbon was easy to put on. The silver pearls were made of fondant and luster dust.

My first cake - inspired by the one on the cover of Wilton's Tiered Cawkes book - the pearl balls were changed to math the detailing of the brides dress. Ihad some major issues with covering the 14' bottom tier by myself at 2:30am so it's not a very good job. But the bride & groom loved it so that's what counts.

This was my first practice attempt at a stacked wedding cake... Since I could see every imperfection, we decided to to the 3 levels on staggered stands.

Cake is duplicate of one I have seen on a website. Cannot recall which decorator.
Was easy enough, just time consuming. All decorations edible. Calla lilies are gumpaste. Cake covering is fondant. Bows, pearls are gumpaste.

Iced with BC and decorated with fondant cutouts. Painting the decorations was a nightmare! It is VERY hot & humid, and the luster dust/vodka paint kept coagulating and drawing into the center of each piece. I painted it 3 times, and barely got it to the wedding on time! The tophat and pearls are GP.

The tophat & pearls close up. The bride and groom's colors were gold, silver and black, with a 30's art deco theme. The topper was the brides idea.

This was a 50th wedding anniversary cake and actually my first cake for pay. The roses are gumpaste and the pearls are the edible fondant pearls. There are also pearls below the swags, but at this angle they are not seen. The sugarfree cake was the toughest part of this job. It had cream cheese icing which would not take the fondant swags;they would melt with the condensation. So there was a last minute redesign.
