Cake decorating is just a hobby and hadn't made any in a while because I decided to go back to college (after graduating 20 years ago! Eeek!) and get my Bachelor's in Nursing. Anyway, the university which I attend is also a performing arts/liberal arts school and they incorporate art into EVERYTHING! So, I had an assignment to do an artistic representation of what nursing meant to me so naturally, I made a cake! It's an open book showing nursing as a new chapter of my life. Although MY new chapter is being a nurse, I think this cake would be great for anyone starting a new challenge, career change, life change, etc. Thanks for looking! :-)

This was for a baby shower. I had so much fun with this! This is the first time I have done an open box present cake! Everything on it is fondant. For the lid I used a square cake board and covered it in fondant! Then dusted everything with shimmer dust!

I had a lot of fun doing this open book cake! Thanks for all the inspiration on here! I did 2-10 inch square cakes and then shaved them down to look like an open book. I airbrushed the sides to give it an antique look! The letters I did with melted chocolate, and all the other decorations were fondant!

A strawberry cake with buttercream icing, fondant accents and ribbon book mark. Done for a 95th birthday celebration - it had the birthday lady's favourite colours (pink and purple), favourite flower (daisy), and favourite scripture on it. I used the Wilton's open book pan to bake this cake. TFL!

I finally got to use my edible image printer! This was for a friends mom who loves her bible...I used a 11x15 pan and 3 layers of marble cake, carved to look like a book and then covered in fondant. I used extra pieces of fondant for top pages and curled the ends, dry dusted sides with gold luster dust. We used the page from the bible with her favorite verse, then the other side has her 5 children, I love how this came out!

This cake was for my daughter's 8th birthday. It was a 6 layer rainbow cake. Each layer was a different fruit flavor. The outside of the box was gumpaste and airbrushed. The puppy was rice krispie treats covered in fondant and also airbrushed.

A vanilla cake covered with fondant in the shape of an open giftbox. The top of box I made using foamcore board covered with 50/50 fondant gumpaste. Gumpaste bow and crystal embellishments. Tissue paper is gumpaste which I ran through pasta machine to get as thin as I could get them; cut in strips; small pieces, the pleat slightly to get the folded paper effect.

This was an entry in the 2012 Sweet Times in the Rockies Cake Show. I won 2nd Place in the Advanced Tiered Cakes category. It was a tongue-in-cheek, silly Valentine's Day Wedding Cake inspired by all the bright and fun Valentine's Day items in the seasonal aisle at the craft store, thus the overly bright reds and green. TFL!

So very excited, this was my first real wedding cake! So relieved nothing went wrong...!

A vintage style 3-tier wedding cake, made up of 12", 9" & 6" tiers. Bride's choice of design, from the Cotton and Crumbs' school of design, I only hope I did it some justice, I love their cakes.

Carrot cake with cream cheese filling, followed by Red Velvet with the same filling, and the bride's favourite - Victoria Sponge with raspberry conserve and vanilla buttercream filling. All baked from scratch, using free range eggs, real butter, organic oil and alcohol-free vanilla extract. Decorated with hand-moulded sugar roses and piped pearls. Lace border was real lace and the 'stand' is actually a 16" polystyrene dummy i covered in pink ribbon then more of the lace on top of that. Worked out well.

This storybook cake was made for an adoption party. The cake is a 9x13, two layers, carved. Indydebi's buttercream frosting on the sides and Wilton Sugar Sheets for the pages. I rolled up aluminium foil and made it into an arch shape to press into the sides for the effect of pages.
