This is a a white cake with vanilla buttercream covered in mmf it was for a little boy's 1st birthday. I was kind of proud of myself for this one , it is the first fondant cake I've made with NO border and I think it came nicely. I was also really happy with the octopus! I Made all the characters that are the birthday boy's favorites. I also used food coloring to make the actually cake blue, which looked really cute when it was cut into. Thanks for looking!

Let me start off by saying this is the first cake (and first post!) I have ever made, so it has many flaws!! The octopus was a Styrofoam ball covered in tinfoil then marshmallow fondant. The tentacles are marshmallow fondant. I used three cakes and kind of tapered them off to look like a rock (didn't work so well, oh well!).. The "sand" is brown sugar and the seaweed is colored white chocolate.

When my son turned one, he was nicknamed "The Octopus" because he was always grabbing all sorts of things from all over! So we went with the octopus theme. The octopus is a ball of cake covered with fondant, and his legs are rolled fondant. The rest is buttercream.

This is an ocean cake that I made for my son's 2nd Birthday. I'm still learning the tricks of the trade. Thanks so much for everyone's inspiration on this web page, so many talented people and beautiful cakes. This is a Vanilla cake with cream cheese filling and frosting. The coral was made out of piped white chocolate colored teal and purple. The Octopus, star fish, sea shells, sand dollars, crabs, sting rays, treasure chest were all hand made fondant and the sand is Brown sugar. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it.

This is my first time attempt and feel that it turned out extremely well for never working with fondant ever. I look forward to getting even better as I make more cakes.

This is my labor of love for the steampunk cake contest. I LOVE the steampunk style and have been immersed in the culture for years now. It was hard to pick out favorite parts of the steampunk culture to incorporate into a cake since there are SO MANY fun parts to represent!
In the end,I wanted to just highlight a few key elements. Cake, copper, wood, ornate victorian detailing, steam power. I wanted the cake to look like it could roll around on its own steam power so I included wheels and pipes. I raised the board slightly to make the cake appear to be supported by the wheels. Can't forget the gears!
To me, if steampunk had a mascot, it would be the octopus so I made a little one for the topper to complete the look. Everything was created with sugar, and fondant.
Thank you CC for this awesome contest!!! Most fun I've ever had making a cake :)

This was a special request from my little neice for her 3rd B-day. She loves all things under the sea and also wanted Nemo and Dory on her cake. I was quite happy with the way it turned out, and she loved it so much she didn't even eat the cake, she just wanted to play with all the fondant characters! Thanks to all cc'rs for your inspiration! And TFL!
