Critique group member: 9" WASC w/nutella. Lattice and numbers in RI, cornelli work in silver piping gel (wished I would have used RI as I found the gel difficult ot work with!). Iced in BC. Had a small BC blowout in the front of the cake an hour before the party and smushed it down (why can't blowouts happen in the back?!). Happy 2008 to all!

I made this cake for my parents' annual New Years Eve Euchre party. The cake is 2 tiers; the bottom tier is a 2 layer 8x2" square vanilla cake with strawberry buttercream filling and the top tier is a 2 layer 6x2" round chocolate cake with raspberry buttercream filling. I used 5 straws to support the top tier. The cake is frosted in buttercream and I used a diamond impression mat on the sides of the cake and inserted gold and silver dragees at each intersection. Black boarders are chocolate buttercream piped on with a round tip. The stars made out of fondant a few days ahead to help harden and was brushed with gold and silver glaze and pearl dust.

DH and I spent New Year's with good friends. We're all gamer geeks. So appropriately, Cthulhu (a character by H.P. Lovecraft) had to make an appearance. But of course he had to do it "Calls for Cthuhlu" (YouTube) style. O.K. I'm done being a geek for now ..LOL

I wanted to try out my brick fondant mold, so I made an igloo. I then figured, hey a snowman can live in an igloo...I had some snow spinkles, and made a few bigger flakes from gumpaste with the cut-out thingy. Then off course topped it off with the famous Wilton Shiny Sprinkles.
(I later changed the sign to say something else and brought it to a party and it was a big hit) ;-)

I did this for a New Years Eve party, but it would be great for a birthday. I wanted it to look like the cake had been set down on a plate of confetti. It is a mocha cake with chocolate buttercream icing. Fondant and gumpaste bow and curls

A last minute dessert for a new years party just because someone decided that they were craving cake... a 6 inch buttercream cake with candy melt numbers and fondant stars with luster dust. The yellow and black is some edible glitter stuff that I found buried in my cake decorating cabinet, so I thought I'd use some. Barely survived the car ride through a Chicago blizzard on New Years Eve!

Cupcakes iced in buttercream, numbers made out of red candy melts and stars are made out of fondant. The stars were standing up but after a long and torturous drive through a blizzard to the new years party, the stars had flopped! :(

I did this cake for the year of the rat - for a Chinese New Party tonight. It is an orange infused white sour cream cake with a ginger buttercream and orange filling. Fondant decorations, hand-painting and a little piping! Enjoy!

This was our cake for a Hawaiian New Years Party. So many inspirations from CC members. I'm sorry I didn't keep track of the 3-4 main ones I inspired this cake from. It's champagne cake covered in MMF with champagne flavoring and then RI roman numerals and hands for the clock. Once dried they were luster dusted and a mini-bottle of champagne added with fake ice chips and a Hawaiian plumeria out of gumpaste finished it off. Enjoy and thank you to all!!!

This was a WASC with raspberry filling, BC with MMF around the side. I was pretty much
trying to use up the raspberry filling and MMF I had from my sister's B-day cake, so I made
this to take into the office. The design was inspired by various cakes I saw in the gallery.

here is my dragon cake. he is all buttercream (of course...that is all i know how to use so far!) and he is all butter recipe cake mix except for his legs are twinkies and his neck is ding dongs. his spikes and wings are fruit roll ups. the texture is just done with a wadded up paper towel. i roughly followed the instructions at this site http://sdbytracy.com/dragoncake.htm. thanks for the great tutorial with pictures, tracy!

My husband and his boss and other managers wanted to show their appreciation to their teams. So, they had a special luncheon and my sis & I made the cake. They wanted a celebration cake that said "Thanks."
All of the confetti, balloons and streamers were made out of fondant. The streamers were rolled around a dow for the corkscrew look.
