I sculpted a 6" and 9" cake to make this hiking cake. My husband actually worked out the structure of the spiral on paper. I added a wedge of cake and then sculpted some into the cake as well. The bike is leaning on the right side of the cake. All of the decorations are gum paste.
If you would like instructions on how to carve the spiral, please look here: http://cakecentral.com/tutorial/how-to-carve-a-spiral-cake

My little cousins cake. He loves to hunt and fish with his dad and so i thought this idea woulda been cute! Marble cake, which I dyed the white cake green so it would look like camoflauge when they cut it open, with vanilla bavarian filling. Everything is buttercream (except toys of course). I used edible glitter flakes to accent the water. a grass tip, candy rocks and for the sides I used a mosaic of colored icing to look camo. Initially I tried to make the camo sides smooth, but had to dab the sides.

This was fun to make- the couple wanted an abstract mountain with snow capped peaks. They are dressed in wedding clothes but with backpacks and hiking sticks. Their first date was a hike through the mountains.

This was actually a wedding cake for a couple who loves to snowboard. It was 14", 10", 8", and 6" cakes, carved. The snowboarders were made to look like the magnetic REI Joe Adventure figures. I used the actual magnets on the other side of the cake.

Each year we go to Montana to volunteer at a ranch that is home to troubled teens. There are two teams that go in June and then gather to share pictures, stories, and good food in July. I made this cake for the reunion party. It depicts the rocks of the Mission Range of the Rockies, the black bears on the ranch and the long horn sheep found in Glacier National.

This was for my nephew. Got ideas from CC. I decorated this in record time. (roughly 45 min. icing colors and cake were already made ahead.) I was rushed with other commitments the same day. All BC icing, pretzels and military toys were added. This kids loved it and were fighting over the pretzels!

This is the cake I made for my grandson's 2nd birthday. It was the first and last cake I will ever get to make for him. He died in a tragic accident about a month after his birthday. I will always miss Boomer but am so thankful to the aesome God I serve that I was given the opportunity to make this one for him. He loved farm animals, especially a neigh (what he called a horse), and 4 wheelers. I can still remember the way he jumped up and down the day I brought it in. I thought I was going to drop it.
