a friend wanted a scavenger hunt cake and I didn't have much notice. I found one on CC by Mysonshines and asked permission to copy it. Not only did she say yes but also gave me pointers along the way! Thanks so much! White cake, buttercream icing, royal icing letters, fondant map, magnifying glass and footprints.

This was fun to make! MMF covered base (9x13) then the map was made from MMF and I teared the edges and painted them brown to look burnt. All details are MMF and "sand" is crushed Nilla Wafers and "coins" are Nilla Wafers airbrushed with gold luster dust. Thanks for looking!

Lady wanted the cake to have lots of stuff on it and be fancy. I think I made it borderline gaudy!!!! Its a Dora/jungle theme. Unfortunately I noticed too late that the image place that did my images made anything that was supposed to be purple, blue. Ugh. That's ok I'm going to probably stop using most, if not all, edible images.

A baby pirate cake. I marbled the bottom to look like water and put some waves. The top is a map to Coltons party and I think the little pirate is so cute!

WASC with buttercream filling. covered in buttercream and dusted with graham cracker crumbs, the palm tree, treasure chest, jewels and distressed happy birthday sign are all fondant.

Cake I made for my nefew's 2nd Bday. Backyardigans figurines are all handmade with gumpaste. The Bday boy is represented as a little pirate with a hook for a hand. Palm Tree is chocolate Fondant and gumpaste top. Treasure chest is also chocolate fondant. Everything is edible, as usual :)

I made this for a "We Treasure You" teacher end of year party. The base cake was vanilla with bc filling covered in bc and topped with brown sugar and raw sugar mixture for a sandy look. I made the map out of fondant. The treasure chest base was choc cake with vanilla bc filling covered in fondant pulled with a woodgrain technique. The lid was rice cereal and marshmallow covered in fondant. I used cardboard to make sure it was sturdy enough. Accents included chocolate shells, gumpaste crab, chocolate coins (store bought) and lollipop recipe gems - I bought a candy mold with small gems in assorted shapes and tinted the lollypop recipe different colors. All in all it tourned out fabulous and was a hit at the teacher luncheon but took many many hours of preparation and even a practice treasure chest to get it right.

Thanks to the original cake from Sweetpea8 who inspired my rendition of the Pirate Map.The treasure chest is a chocolate mold..Chocolate coins..candy necklaces etc.Fondant wood pieces.Airbrushed...Picture of Captain Jack Sparrow and map are printed images on Mylar scrapbooking paper.

Suitcase cake iced in buttercream with chocolate fondant accents and free handed gumpaste/royal icing passport. Based on several cakes I've seen here on CC- thank you! Had a blast planning this cake and making the map cakeboard!

The Ceramic Egg Grill owners apparently travel to meet up and grill together. This client was retiring and she and her husband were going on the grill tour. The map markers indicated locations of meetings. She loved it. I love customized cakes!
