For a 3 year old's "Un-Birthday" Party (her family was relocating b/c of work a month before her actual birthday, so early party with her friends). First attempt at topsy-turvy - I would've placed the polka dots higher on the top tier (didn't compensate for placing that tier down into the second one). Lesson learned! Otherwise, it wasn't as difficult as I was expecting. It's iced in buttercream with fondant accents. I was so pleased!

This was my first attempt (and maybe my last!) at a "Mad Hatter" or "Topsy Turvy" cake. I charged $3 a serving, but will charge more like $4 or $5 per serving if I ever try it again! Tiers are 10, 8 and 6 inch. They were covered in buttercream and fondant. Accents, flowers, leaves, and bumblebee are all fondant.

This is a two tier fondant covered cake. I tried to do a mad hatter cake but I off set the bottom to much so is a little too tilted. I am very happy with the way the cherry blossoms came out and the tree.

This cake was done for a special birthday party. The recipient is a gardener so bugs were requested. The design was partially taken from a cake seen in a local cake shop window, but modified to be more cartoonish. Thanks to andrealinn for bug inspiration. I really enjoyed doing this one despite the late night!

This was my interpretation of Alice in Wonderland. Everything is edible except for the stick holding the name at the top (name is in royal icing).

This is the most ridiculously unstable cake in history. Maybe not quite, since it actually is standing, but having a tilt table is a serious contributer to that!

I made it for an unbirthday party, like Alice in Wonderland, hence the Mad Hatter's hat and teacup on top with the disembodied teapot spout pouring into it.

10, 8 & 6" cakes, iced with traditonal buttercream and covered with fondnat. Followed the tutorial from CC. Do what it ways! See the wrinking on the bottom? That was an indication of things to come! Lots of fun to do but it uses A LOT of cake to get this effect. The customer sent me the pic from The Pink Cake Box and this was the result.

Fairly pleased, I see all my mistakes..It definitely could have been smoother.. and I used the tricks....It was a bugger trying to get stacked.. Don't understand why thta is so difficult.

Ok - we'll call this one a learning expierience! LOL I had never made a whimsey cake before, so I thought I would try one for my birthday. I made the MMF the day of decorating, instead of letting it rest overnight, so it was soooo soft and hard to work with - and how the heck to do go from a big top to the small bottom without getting pleats in the MMF??? Anyway, learned a lot with this one - maybe I will try again someday. Yellow cake, MMF and buttercream decorations.

This cake was for a Mad Hatter themed tea party bridal shower. I agreed to help some friends with it. They came over with the cakes already baked. It took 5 of us 5 hours to stack and decorate the cake. Everything is covered in fondant and all electric colors are used. The top tier is an upside down tea cup to complete the theme.

This is a "rough draft" of a cake I am doing for my friend's surprise 50th birthday party. My first try at a topsy-turvy and I'm so glad I did a practice cake first, as I've already learned a lot!! The tiers are 10"-8"-6", first bottom two are 3 layers, the top is 4.

Was really wanting to try make a madhatter cake, so this cake was purely experimental...and by the end of it, it drove me mental!!haha!..Even tho it was a test try i should have covered the board first, coz it looks really ugly! Anyway my husband was happy to take it to the school he teaches at, for his girls sports team he coaches.

The top hat was foam covered in mmf. The teacups were gumpaste. All the other accents were mmf. I was gonna do a topsy turvy but I sprained my foot yesterday tripping over my daughter on the stairs while carrying a laundry basket. After a trip tp the ER I came home and sat down in a chair and finished frosting and decorating the bottom. Now I can put up my foot and relax.

A debutante had an usual party. So here is what we came up with. The cat is orange creamsicle cake, the mushroom cap is the cake part (choc.), the base was a foam pedestal, The hat is vanilla princess with bc and fresh strawberry filling. All covered in fondant. I hope it survives, the humidity is wicked today, and its on an outside deck! But it looks cool right now!
