for my son's 3rd birthday, and since we went to Lego land this summer, guess what he wanted? lego man is crispies, and the bottom bricks are also cereal. Rolo candies make the nubs, and very vanilla cake make the top bricks and cake truffles (which were then rolled in hot cocoa mix). All covered in MMF. this cake was hard for me.. I salute everyone who has done square cakes! I didn't realize till I was halfway through that the whole cake was square! Whew. went over well at the party though, thanks for all the inspiration CC!

My 5 year old son has been asking me to make him a lego batman cake for his 5th birthday. I could not find a lego batman toy anywhere so I made one out of fondant. The bottom cake is a 8 inch and the top was just carved pieces from an 6 inch pan. I covered the cake in fondant, I also used brick impression for the sides of the cake and added black sugar crystals for the roof effect.

I suggested that we combine the boy's interests with religion for his first communion. Turns out he's interested in Star Wars Legos! This is the end result.

This was one exciting cake to make. Who does not love Lego's, Star Wars, and Cake? I love them all. I hope the birthday boy enjoyed the cake as much as I enjoyed making it. Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, C3P0, Yoda, Han Solo, and a Stormtrooper on on the cake with the death star and various Lego parts, and birthday boys name

This cake was a combo of two pictures I was shown. It is a butter cake with buttercream icing and fondant letters. The LEGO Star Wars were purchased and assembled by the parents and used as part of the little boy's birthday gift. The cake was a hit (especially for the little guy)!

Made this chocolate cake for my son's 6th birthday. I mad the blocks with loaf pans. One box made 2 loaf pans. I trimmed off the rounded top of the loaf, then sandwiched them together with a layer of pre-made vanilla frosting. I used 3 boxes of cake mix. The last "block" I made, I cut in half to make the two half-blocks. I used trimmed lollipop sticks as support under the 2nd layer block. I placed the top block on a trimmed piece of cardboard for support. After a night in the fridge, the cake was beautiful for the party and no sagging at all! Used own recipe of buttercream for the frosting and frosted oreos for the bumps on the blocks. What a pain frosting oreos! Would have liked to do this cake with fondant, but my son likes the taste of buttercream better. Used gel-based food coloring so the buttercream stayed nice and stiff...not watered down. On some of the colors, I used the whole tube of food coloring per 8 oz frosting! They key to bright colors was letting the colored frosting sit for a few hours in the fridge. The whole cake was a hit! Delicious!

I love this cake, and loved making it!! It is an 8 inch double layer square on bottom with a 4 inch double layer square on top. It is covered in vanilla butter cream, then home made fondant. Han Solo, R2D2 and Darth Vader are hand made from fondant/gum paste. I had to convince this customer to go with fondant covering, and she was thrilled that she did in the end. :) September, 2009

I made this cake for my son's sixth birthday, at his request - he loves the Lego Batman game on the Wii. I used MMF to cover the cake and the legos (rice crispy treats), bit it was too soft for Batman and Robin - they kept collapsing and their edges were all squishy. I had to buy a package of Wilton's rolled fondant at the last minute and sculpt them out of that. Next time I'll just make the figures out of gumpaste!

This was a Rainbow Bright Cake (this flavor is really popular with kid birthdays... I think it's all the sugar!) which means it was a vanilla cake colored to match the decor of the cake and then layered with buttercream and sprinkles. Each side of the cake is supposed to look like a different building from Lego Batman's Gotham city. I made the characters out of fondant and I found Batman's abs the funniest part to make on these characters!

This is my first cake- not only baking from scratch but also I had never used fondant before. It's vanilla sponge cake with butter cream, and fondant. The car is sculpted from cake, and all the decorations are fondant. I painted the details using food coloring.
Thanks for any suggestions as I'm very new at this.
