My 7 year old made this for her birthday. I did the doll's top and crumb coated the cake. She also used a couple of my leftover royal icing flowers. The rest of the icing and decorations were done by my daughter. She got her inspiration from Mommyof2angels picture. My daughter called them cha cha girls. I have trouble "letting go" when my kids do cakes so I was very proud of my daughter and how it turned out.

This is my son's second cake he made for scouts. We "won" this one and used it for my husband's birthday. My son and I baked the top cake in a round metal bowl and the other is 1/4 sheet. Lots of cake for the 4 of us! It was his design and he did it all except stack the cake and write on it.

These were all fondant covered cakes that I let my children decorate with food writers. The top left was by my 5 year old son, top right my almost 4 year old son and the bottom by my 21 month old daughter who kept poking the marker thru the cake! Lots of fun and daddy loved them....a card you can eat!

My son and a couple of neighbor kids wanted me to make a cake. The deal was, I bake the cake - they decorate it! There were three kids, age 10, age 8 and age 7. I think they did a pretty good job on what they titled, "The Boonies Cake".

This cake was so much fun, and quite easy. My buttercream kids are a little "rough" but I still think they're cute. Mom said her girl loved it, and it got me two other orders, so I guess they aren't too bad :) Everything is edible except the trees, umbrellas and beach balls. Half chocolate/half yellow/buttercream icing.

Little sister wanted in get in on the decorating action too...so this is my 3 year olds first decorating job. She tried really hard to ice her cupcakes - but asked Mommy for a little help. She cut out the mmf stars and pained all but one herslef...big sister helped her with the rest. So now all the girls in the house have been bit by the decorating bug!

This is the very first cake I ever did (which was last year)..can you tell?? This was also a disaster. I took this picture right before the cake split in half much to my horror one hour before the birthday party! Obviously I knew nothing about constructing a cake and did not know about this website. It was for a friend so she was fine about it, she got another cake from the bakery. Her son wanted another pirate theme party again for this year's b-day. I did it differently this year..see other photo.

My revised edition of the Elmo Birthday cake...I thought the cake looked very
plain when I finished last night, so this morning I got back to work. I think it
looks brighter!

My 5 yr.old granddaughter and I made this cake and I let her decorate it herself. I just filled the icing bags and turned her loose. She has been staying with me since she was 8 weeks old. Maybe she picked up some cake decorating tricks.

My 11 step-daughter wanted to decorate a cake while I practiced for class. I gave her a couple of bags, told her how to change the tips on the couplers, and set her loose. She has a creative brain and thinks every once of cake should be covered in icing. I promised I'd put it up here for all to see. You can't really tell, but she did get some of the techniques down pat.

I made this cake using fondant. I then traced the picutre of Bob using the pin prick method and used royal to pipe the outline and then hand painted the inside. I used royal for the sides of the cake and the piping.

This was one of my first cakes I got paid for. I did it about a year ago. It was tough to do but so much fun when its for your son's friend's birthday party. The small wheels are oreos that I decorated with buttercream. The large wheels are pepermint patties. The train tracks and bottom icing is fondant. Icing on the train is buttercream. This is still one of my favorites.
